The International Conference on Informatics and Semiotics in Organisations (ICISO) celebrates its 18th gathering. This conference is part of the series of international events devoted to latest research and application of informatics in organisations. Digitalisation, innovation, and transformation impact on organisations in the modern business environment. As such, business landscapes are rapidly evolving into more dynamic value creation across a wide range of industries, such as healthcare, education, public governance, agriculture, environment, accounting and finance. The digital transformation is predominantly enabled by information and communication technologies (ICTs). which has stimulated products and services innovation. Emerging technologies, such as IoT, artificial intelligence, robotics, virtual and augment reality, 3D printing, and blockchain, have profoundly transformed the social, economic, and human activities across the sectors of retailing, finance, health/healthcare, energy and automotive. In order to manage a modern business, top management mind-set is changing from the traditional leadership to digital leadership in the strategic management practices. The evolution in our modern society will continue and become more rapid in the foreseeable future.
Organisational Semiotics (OS), with its profound theories, methods, and techniques provides an effective approach to explore the nature and characteristics of digitalisation, innovation and transformation in the complex business landscape. OS, as a discipline of study of sign, information and human communication in organised contexts, will provide a most appropriate approach to examine the issues of digital transformation and utilization. As we live in the digital era, OS with its power has guided academics and practitioners to provide actionable insight into human interplay among sign based world, digital technologies and organisation transformation. ICISO 2018 will continue the effort of the international research community in the development of Organisational Semiotics, focusing not only on theory building, but also on practical benefits gained through applications of methods and techniques derived from various OS approaches. The conference theme, Digitalisation, Innovation, and Transformation, allows us to consider how these three perspectives are driving changes globally.
