Call For Papers

The fourteenth IEEE eScience Conference will be held in Amsterdam, The Netherlands from 29 October - 1 November 2018. The conference brings together leading international researchers and research software engineers from all disciplines to present and discuss how digital technology impacts scientific practice. eScience promotes innovation in collaborative, computationally- or data-intensive research across all disciplines, throughout the research lifecycle.

Science in a digital world presents new opportunities and challenges. One of these challenges is keeping up-to-date with the latest developments in computer science. Furthermore, some scientific disciplines are well advanced in exploiting digital technologies, while others are just scratching the surface. The aim of this conference is cross-fertilization across scientific disciplines, to advance science by fully exploiting the use of digital technologies. Disciplines include, but are not limited to: life sciences, health research, forensic science, humanities, social sciences, physics, astronomy, climate, environmental science, and earth science. Digital technologies include, but are not limited to: machine learning, natural language processing, real time data analysis, inter-operability and linked data, multi-scale and multi model simulations, high performance computing, workflow technologies, visualization, and image processing.

The three-day conference program consists of two single track days open for all eScience contributions. New this year is a multitrack day with focused sessions on Exascale Computing for High Energy Physics, Weather and Climate science in the digital era, Data Handling and Analytics for Health, Advances in eScience for the Humanities and Social Sciences, and Computer Science: Tools & Infrastructure. This call for papers is for oral presentations in the plenary session and the Computer Science: Tools & Infrastructure focused session. Note that the other focused sessions have a separate call for abstracts. On the day prior to the conference there will be workshops and tutorials.

We aim for a diverse audience. Therefore, we strongly encourage both female and male researchers from all disciplines and backgrounds to submit:

state-of-the-art computer science work and demonstrate its application
research that shows the impact of digital technology on science

To be eligible for an oral presentation, you must submit the abstract of your full paper before Friday May 25, and your full paper before Friday June 1, 2018. To be eligible for a poster presentation, submission of a one-page abstract before the abstract deadline is sufficient. Rejected full papers will also be considered for a poster presentation. Both full papers and abstracts are peer reviewed and if accepted published in the conference proceedings that will be made available online through the IEEE Digital Library.

It is a requirement that at least one author of each accepted paper attends the conference.
