*** Self-Awareness in Cyber-Physical Systems (SelPhyS) ***
** Last Call! Updated deadline for submissions! ** 4th Edition, Technical University of Munich, Germany, 15-16th of April 2019 Organizers: A.Herkersdorf (Chair), N.Dutt, L.Esterle, A.Jantsch, P.Lewis, A.Sadighi, N.TaheriNejad, K.Tammemäe, T.Wild https://selphys.ict.tuwien.ac.at/index.php DESCRIPTION: * The concept of self-awareness has become a hot research topic in a variety of disciplines such as robotics, artificial intelligence, control theory, networked systems, and so on. Its applicability has been explored in various application domains such as automotive, military, consumer electronics, industrial control, medical equipment, and so forth. The topic owes its attractiveness to many examples in insects, animals and humans, where self-awareness is attributed to facilitate highly resilient and outstandingly efficient behaviors. Thus, self-awareness holds the promise to promote dependability in all types of smart gadgets and artificial agents in the interconnected world of future. * The main purpose of this workshop is to build a community and to try to develop a shared and communal understanding of the main concepts underlying self-awareness with respect to CPS. Currently, self-awareness is studied in a range of different communities, where the underlying assumptions, definitions and goals differ significantly. This workshop will provide a forum for reflections and in-depth discussions of the pivotal concepts of this field which will serve as a basis for building an integrated scientific community and for developing future research projects. * In addition to invited keynote speech and participants’ talks, we will study and scrutinize specific systems and underlying concept of observation and it role in self-awareness and its respective properties in hands-on exercises and group discussions. Some procedures will be proposed, based on which workshop participants will work on identification of various observation methods and its effect on awareness in systems (described in the literature or proposed by participants). This exercise will serve as a platform for analyzing the principles and basic concepts of self-awareness, specifically observation and its role in the self-awareness of the systems under study as well as other systems. By engagement of the community in this hands-on joint practice we hope to generate new ideas for future research directions and foster new and stronger collaborations. *** We seek previously published or unpublished contributions for oral and/or poster presentations on research relevant to self-awareness in cyber-physical systems on, but not limited to, the following topics and application areas TOPICS: - Self-Awareness in resource constrained distributed systems - Self-awareness in HW, Operating System, and applications - Self-awareness facilitating autonomous, adaptive or resilient behavior - Demonstration of self-awareness - Architectures - Design methods - Systems with other Self-* properties APPLICATION AREAS: - Sensor Networks - Internet of Things - Automotive - Robotics - Health Monitoring - Industrial Automation - Autonomous Vehicles - System-on-Chip SUBMISSION: The workshop submissions (*one page extended abstract, PDF format only*) has to be sent to workshop organizers (contact below). Organizers will sort the abstracts according to their relevance and expected impact to the workshop outcome. The number of presentation time-slots is limited. Authors of accepted submissions will be informed about decision and proposed presentation format before CPS WEEK early registration deadline. Authors of accepted submissions will have opportunity to make their work public at the workshop website, but there will be no obligation to do so. IMPORTANT DATES: *** Deadline for extended abstracts: 1 March 2019 *** *** Decision of selection: 15 March 2019 *** *** Event Date: 15-16 April 2019 *** *** Submit to: Axel Jantsch: axel.jantsch@tuwien.ac.at *** |
