Call for Papers BreSci - XII Brazilian e-Science Workshop Satellite Event of the XXXVIII Congress of the Brazilian Computer Society Natal-RN, Brazil, July 22-26, 2018 http://sbc.org.br/csbc2018/bresci ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In the last decades, there has been a revolution in the way science and engineering have been conducted by using information and communication technologies (ICTs) in an intensive way. This new way of performing science, called e-Science, plays a fundamental role in the methodology of work adopted by many research groups around the world. Aiming to collaborate with e-Science efforts, proposing a forum for the discussion of relevant topics in this area of study, the Brazilian Computer Society (SBC) will hold, on July 22-26, 2018, the 12th edition of the Brazilian e-Science Workshop (XII BreSci). The event is part of the activities of the XXXVIII Brazilian Computer Society Congress (CSBC) and will be based at the Natal Convention Center, in the city of Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. IMPORTANT DATES - Deadline for papers submission: April 2nd until 12:00 p.m. (BRT), 2018 - Preliminary acceptance notice with suggestion of corrections: April 27, 2018 - Deadline for submission of the final version: May 4th, 2018 - XII BreSci: 23 and 24 July 2018 TOPICS OF INTEREST The activities in the workshop include the presentation of full papers, work in progress, abstracts, as well as invited talks distributed over two days within CSBC programming. Topics of interest in BreSci XII include (but are not limited to) those listed below: Main Track Semantic Web for e-Science Autonomic and self-organized systems for e-Science e-Science Enabling Technologies Experimental Environments for e-Science Large-scale e-Science experimentation processes Knowledge management applied to large-scale e-Science Crowdsourcing and citizen science Software ecosystems for e-Science Application Track Bioinformatics Comparative, evolutionary and functional genomics Metagenomics, transcriptomics, metabolomics, proteomics and phylogenomics Bioinformatics data management and data mining Web services for bioinformatics Development of databases, algorithms and computational tools for bioinformatics Pattern recognition, clustering and classification Molecular modeling and anchoring, crystallography studies and drug design Bioinformatics applied to public health Structural bioinformatics, computational genomics and related fields Astronomy Advanced architectures for astronomical computing Environments for analysis of stellar population Tools for astronomy collaboration networks Advanced algorithms for processing astronomical data Panoramic photometry in the PB era Workflows for exploring astronomical data sets Methods of data mining in astronomy Storage and visualization of cosmological simulations Astronomy data management Query processing on large astronomy databases Treatment to combine astronomical catalogs Chemistry Computational chemistry Theoretical chemistry Statistical mechanics Molecular mechanics Molecular modeling Molecular simulation Electronic structure calculation Data storage and visualization in chemistry Biodiversity Informatics Integration of biodiversity and environmental data Modeling ecological and environmental niches Quality of biodiversity data Data standards and metadata for biodiversity and environment Scientific workflows and web services for biodiversity Geographic information systems for biodiversity Semantic web and ontologies in biodiversity and environment Tools for digitizing and mobilizing biodiversity data SUBMISSIONS Both the main and application tracks will accept submissions of complete papers (up to eight pages) and short papers (up to four pages), written in English or Portuguese. Papers should be formatted according to the SBC template (http://sbc.org.br/documentos-da-sbc/summary/169-templates-for-papers-and-book-capitulos/878-modelsforapublicofpapers). All submissions will be reviewed according to the following criteria: suitability for workshop scope, relevance, technical quality, originality and clarity. Papers describing preliminary and ongoing work may also be submitted. Results are desirable (especially in full papers), but not required. Papers will be reviewed in pairs, and the selected papers will be published in the proceedings of the event and should be presented in technical sessions during the workshop. Submissions should be made via the Brazilian Computer Society submission system (JEMS): https://submissoes.sbc.org.br/csbc2018_bresci.
