Call For Papers

The 12th Australian Information Warfare Conference (IWAR 2011) will be held from 5 – 7 December, 2011 in Perth, Western Australia.

The aim of IWAR 2011 is to inform participants on research and practice in traditional and contemporary applications of information warfare. Information warfare is becoming an increasingly diverse discipline that exists within a constantly changing social environment.

The evolution of warfare techniques and the global use of information and networked communications have seen a shift from the more traditional military domain to wider application into the corporate world and global society. The theme this year is "Information Warfare just got personal" in recognition of the increased granularity in cyber attack and tactics allowing highly targeted and personalised attacks. The highly publicised Stuxnet worm from 2010 was a precursor to an emergent escalation in information warfare tactics and targeting. Increasingly cyber systems are also being used to motivate and organise individuals to personal action. The use of twitter and social media is being utilised to great effect in various actions against the "nation state".

The focus theme this year is 'Information Warfare just got personal'.

Papers are invited in the following areas, but not limited to:

• Information operations theory and practice
• Psychological operations
• Critical infrastructure protection and vulnerability
• Application of information warfare in contemporary and non-military environments
• Use of social media for influence operations
• Case studies in application of information warfare
