AST 2011 - 6th International Workshop on Applications of Semantic Technologies

Located at INFORMATIK 2011, Berlin, Germany

October 6th, 2011

http://km.aifb.kit.edu/ws/ast2011/

Important Dates
---------------
* Deadline for paper submissions: May 20th, 2011 (extended from May 15th)
* Notification of acceptance: June 20th, 2011
* Camera-ready versions: July 1st, 2011
* Workshop: October 6th, 2011

Objectives
----------
Semantic Web is a major international research effort with the goal to make web
content available for intelligent knowledge processing. The Semantic Web draws
on standard and novel techniques from various disciplines related to Computer
Science, including Artificial Intelligence, Databases, Internet Technology,
Software Agents, Ontologies, Knowledge Management and eCommerce. The developed
and integrated methods and tools – often called Semantic Technologies – are
generic and have a very large application potential outside the domain of
Semantic Web.

Applications of Semantic Technologies are currently being investigated in
various fields, including Ambient Intelligence, Software Engineering, Cognitive
Systems, Corporate Intranets, Knowledge Management and Bioinformatics. In recent
years the amount of data published on the Semantic Web as so-called Linked Data
has exploded. We believe that the methods and tools provided by Semantic
Technologies will play a crucial role in these and other application areas for
the foreseeable future, in particular for community-based information platforms.

Topics of Interest
------------------
This workshop shall bring together researchers and practitioners who work on
applications of Semantic Technologies. It shall further the cross-fertilization
between application areas and aid the technology transfer from foundational
research into practice. The workshop shall cover diverse application areas of
Semantic Technologies, including, but not limited to, the following.

* Ambient Intelligence
* Bioinformatics, eHealth and Life Sciences
* Business Process Management
* Cognitive Systems
* Digital Libraries
* eCommerce
* eGovernment
* eScience
* Grid and Cloud Computing
* Information Integration
* Internet of Things
* Machine Learning
* Mobile Computing
* Multimedia Data Management
* Social Sciences
* Software Engineering
* Service-Oriented Computing
* Service Innovation and Management
* Text Mining and Information Extraction
* and any other application area of Semantic Technologies

Along the spotlight topic "Communities" of INFORMATIK 2011, we specifically
encourage submissions that cover applications of Semantic Technologies in
the areas of social networks, wikis, microblogging sites and community
sites. We plan to cluster these topics in a spotlight session.
