IEEE INFOCOM’2019 Workshop on Ultra High Broadband Terahertz Communication for 5G and Beyond Networks (UBTCN) ********************************************************************************** First International Workshop on Ultra High Broadband Terahertz Communication for 5G and Beyond Networks (UBTCN) April 29 – May 2nd, 2019 Paris, France FINAL EXTENSION -- submission deadline: January 24, 2019 =================== Call For Papers =================== Communication over Terahertz (THz) bands is emerging as a new technology to fulfill the requirements of beyond 5G networks. These 5G future networks particularly require ultra-high bandwidth, negligible latency and seamless communication for a large number of devices and applications. Moreover, the significantly reduced antenna size requirements enable novel applications at the nanoscale. The current research on THz communication is more towards the devices, materials, and antenna design. However, to achieve the data rate and latency goals of 5G and beyond networks, more research is required to develop efficient and novel physical, MAC and network layer techniques including Massive MIMO, beamforming, and switching, medium access, and sharing, scheduling and synchronization, routing and resource allocation. The traditional techniques of communication cannot be directly applicable to THz bands as they do not consider the unique characteristics of Terahertz band like reflection, path loss, and absorption over short distance propagation. The UBTCN workshop aims to unite the key enabling players to achieve the goals for future 5G and beyond networks. The main objectives are; to have an overview of the current research in this area; to explore and discuss key challenges; to highlight new research directions for future networks and to share views on the high frequency bands; and to define the feasibility of these bands as a good candidate to be supported by funding bodies for ultrahigh speed networks action plans and standardization. The general topics include, but are not limited to: • Terahertz communication networks and its applications for nano- and macroscale networks • New trends in channel/propagation modeling for different application scenarios • Waveforms, synchronization, Modulation techniques, Massive MIMO techniques, half/full duplex systems for THz communication networks • Beam steering and forming techniques • Optimization techniques for physical layer parameters, joint design for radio access and front/back-end systems for THz • Software-defined networking techniques for Terahertz communication networks • Medium access and sharing schemes, error and flow control, and scheduling techniques • Frame/packet generation, and optimization techniques for THz • Routing, resource sharing, and load management for THz • Techniques to support policies and standardization activities for THz • Testbeds and simulation tools for THz communication networks • Cross-layer protocols for THz communication networks • THz-optical network interconnection • Beyond 5G THz access network architectures • Applications of THz communications at the macro- and nanoscale =================== Important Dates =================== - FINAL EXTENSION -- submission deadline: January 24, 2019 - Notification of acceptance: February 22, 2019 - Camera-ready papers due: March 10, 2019 =================== Paper Submission =================== The workshop accepts only novel, previously unpublished papers which are not under review by any journal or conference. Accepted and presented papers will be published in the IEEE INFOCOM 2019 Conference Proceedings and submitted to IEEE Xplore®.
