CALL FOR PAPERS: WOMEN’S RIGHTS IN EGYPT AND ARAB STATES
THE ALEXANDRIA UNIVERSITY FACULTY OF LAW, ALEXANDRIA, EGYPT
THIRD ANNUAL CONFERENCE, 1 – 2 DECEMBER 2010

The Alexandria University Faculty of Law (AUFL) and The Protection Project at The Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies are pleased to invite scholars and professionals to submit proposals for the third annual conference, “Women’s Rights in Egypt and Arab States,” which will take place December 1 – 2, 2010 at the Helnan Palestine Hotel in Alexandria, Egypt.
The conference will bring together professors of law, religion and social sciences and representatives from NGOs and other elements of civil society to discuss a broad array of topics related to the rights of women in the Arab world, including Islamic law, personal status and family laws, and labor and political rights, among others.
AUFL welcomes paper submissions from all disciplines on topics including but not limited to:
 International human rights legislation: women’s rights and reservations made by Arab States;
 Political participation of women in Islamic law and Arab legislation;
 The role of civil society organizations in empowering women and facilitating access to justice;
 Criminal laws and women: female genital mutilation, sexual harassment, violence against women, human trafficking and discrimination;
 Marriage and women’s rights in Arab society;
Please submit paper abstracts (300 – 500 worlds) and author biographies electronically to Jessica Morrison, Director of Education and Training at The Protection Project (jmorrison09@jhu.edu), by August 1, 2010. Papers may be submitted in English, Arabic and French. Authors selected to present will be notified no later than September 1, 2010, and their works will be published in the annual Law Review of the Alexandria University Faculty of Law. Completed papers must be submitted for publication by September 30, 2010, and should be between 5,000 – 7,000 words, excluding notes and bibliography.

La Faculté de Droit à L'Université d'Alexandrie et The Protection Project à l’École des Études Internationales Avancées de l’Université Johns Hopkins sont heureux d'inviter des chercheurs et des professionnels à soumettre des propositions pour la troisième conférence annuelle, “Les Droits des Femmes en Égypte et aux États Arabes,” qui aura lieu les 1 et 2 Décembre 2010 à l'Hôtel Helnan Palestine à Alexandrie, en Egypte.
La conférence réunira des professeurs de droit, de la religion et des sciences sociales et des représentants des ONGs et d'autres éléments de la société civile pour discuter des sujets liés aux droits des femmes dans le monde arabe, y compris la loi islamique, les droits du statut personnelle et de la famille, et les droits politiques et des travailleurs, entre autres.
Nous nous félicitons des soumissions des toutes des disciplines sur des thèmes incluant, mais se ne limitant pas, à:
 La législation international des droits de l’homme: les droits des femmes et les réservations faites par les États arabes;
 La participation politique des femmes dans la loi islamique et la législation arabe;
 Le rôle des organisations de la société civile dans l'autonomisation des femmes et en facilitant l'accès à la justice;
 Les lois pénales et les femmes: les mutilations génitales féminines, le harcèlement sexuel, la violence contre les femmes, la traite des êtres humains et la discrimination;
 Le mariage et les droits des femmes dans la société arabe;
S'il vous plaît soumettre des résumés (300 à 500 mots) et les biographies des auteurs par voie électronique à Jessica Morrison, La Directrice d’Éducation et Formation au Protection Project (jmorrison09@jhu.edu), par 1 août 2010. Les articles peuvent être présentées en anglais, arabe et français. Les auteurs sélectionnés à présenter seront avisés au plus tard le Septembre 1, 2010, et leurs articles seront publiés dans la revue annuelle de la Faculté de Droit de l’Université d'Alexandrie. Les articles terminés doivent être soumis pour publication par le Septembre 30, 2010, et devrait être entre 5000 et 7000 mots, à l'exclusion des notes et bibliographie.
