Call For Papers

The chairs of COSIT 2019 are soliciting vision papers, technical papers, short papers/posters and workshop/tutorial proposals for the next installment of the International Conference on Spatial Information theory.

SUBMISSION TYPES

VISION PAPERS

As of 2019, COSIT will have a new type of submission called vision papers. We imagine vision papers to revisit those visions that were suggested in the past and examine if and how those vision came to pass. We also welcome rigorously researched and argued papers leading to a research agenda for the field, thus identifying emerging and/or hard problems for the community to address. Vision papers will undergo a separate but thorough reviewing process. Accepted papers of this type will be scheduled for a special presentation type, allowing for a thought provoking talk and a subsequent intensive discussion. If you like to know more or discuss a potential submission please contact the vision paper chair Maria Vasardani (maria.vasardani@unimelb.edu.au).

FULL PAPERS

Full technical papers will be thoroughly reviewed by at least three members of the international program committee. High-quality submissions will be accepted for presentation at the conference and published in the conference proceedings. Selection will be based on relevance to the conference, scientific significance, novelty, relation to previously published literature, clarity of presentation, and interdisciplinary context. Manuscripts must describe original work that has neither been published before, nor is currently under review elsewhere. If you would like to discuss potential submissions to this category please contact Sabine Timpf (sabine.timpf@geo.uni-augsburg.de) or Christoph Schlieder (christoph.schlieder@uni-bamberg.de).

SHORT PAPERS

Short papers are intended for presenting to the community those pieces of work that are not yet mature for a full publication. For example, late-breaking news, on-going work, project reports, preliminary ideas, and small applications. Submissions will be screened for acceptance by COSIT 2019’s Program Committee. Accepted submissions will be presented at the conference either as short presentations or as posters.

CONFERENCE SERIES

COSIT 2019, the fourteenth conference in the series, will be held in Regensburg, Germany, from September 9th-13th 2019. September 9th will be dedicated to the doctoral colloquium and September 10th will host satellite workshops and tutorials. The main conference is a three-day event, taking place from September 11th to September 13th. Special events are being planned to celebrate a quarter of a century of our lively, strong and interdisciplinary community.

Established in 1993, COSIT (Conference On Spatial Information Theory) is a biennial international conference series concerned with theoretical aspects of space and spatial information. The focus from the beginning has been on advancing the state-of-the-art and progressing towards geographic information science.

SPATIAL INFORMATION THEORY

Spatial information theory is concerned with all aspects of space and spatial environments as experienced, represented and elaborated by humans, other animals and artificial agents. The scope of the conference includes both the conceptualization of frameworks for specific spatio-temporal domains, as well as the development of general theories of space, time, and process and theories of spatial and temporal information.

Papers may address aspects of (geo)spatial information from any disciplinary perspective including (but not limited to) the following:

Geography and Geographic Information Science
Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence
Cognitive Science, Vision Science, Environmental and Behavioral Psychology
Engineering, Human Factors and Cognitive Ergonomics
Cognitive Robotics and Cognitive Informatics
Mathematics, Logic, Philosophy and Ontology
Cognitive Anthropology, Psycholinguistics and Linguistics
Neurosciences
Architecture, Planning, and Environmental Design

CONFERENCE TOPICS

The following (non-exclusive) topics are indicative of the fields of interest:

activity-based models of spatial knowledge
cartography and geographic visualization
cognitive aspects of geographic information
events and processes in geographic space and time
knowledge representation for space and time
naive geography / behavioral geography
navigation and wayfinding, including robot navigation
ontology of space and time
quality and interoperability of geographic information
social and cultural organization of space
spatial and temporal language
spatial aspects of social networks, volunteered geographic information
spatial decision-support, impact of model design
spatial humanities
theory and practice of spatial and temporal reasoning
user interfaces, virtual spaces and collaborative spaces
