Special issue of Journal of Computational Science (JoCS) on "Advances in Computational Nanoscience"

Overview

Nanoscience and nanotechnology promise many revolutionary solutions to a wide range of applications, with a potentially huge impact in many science areas, industry and quality of life. It is one the "next-big-things" on a very small scale. For example, carbon nanotubes and graphene may revolutionize and change the ways of many important areas such as nano-electronics, nanomedicine and nanocomputing.

While experiments have always been an important part of nanoscience and nanotechnology, nanoscale modelling and simulation is playing an ever increasingly role in understanding material properties and designing better nanodevices. Nanoscale simulation is the third paradigm, complementing theory and experiments to problem solving in nanoscience and nanotechnology. Significant challenges necessitate multidisciplinary approaches and effort in computational nanoscience. This special issue strives to summarize and review the latest developments and advances in computational aspects in nanoscale modelling and simulation.

Topics

Topics will be computationally focused, including (but not limited to)

· Numerical methods in computational nanoscience
· Nanoscale modelling and simulation of nanomaterials and nanodevice
· Nanoscale heat transfer
· Nanoscale fluid flow
· Molecular dynamics and characterisation of nanomaterials
· Design optimization of nanodevice
· Novel applications of nanotechnology
