Call for Abstracts
Unity, Composition and Identity in Art Postgraduate Interdisciplinary Conference Lisbon, November 15, 2019 The Centre of Philosophy of the University of Lisbon is pleased to announce the Call for Abstracts for the Postgraduate Interdisciplinary Conference on Unity, Composition and Identity in Art, to be held in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Lisbon, on November 15, 2019. Promoting high-quality research in arts and humanities, the aim of the conference is to provide an interdisciplinary approach to the various processes of creation, perception, judgment or evaluation of artefacts, with a focus on the ideas of unity, composition and identity in art. We are interested in discussing how identity and relationships between unity and plurality have a decisive role in certain artworks (such as polyptychs in painting or sculpture), as well as the concepts of sequentiality and order (for instance, in books such as À la recherche du temps perdu), changing the ways of perceiving and identifying objects. We welcome approaches from different Philosophical and Literary perspectives and from the various traditions of History of Art and Aesthetics. We hope this conference will provide a plural theoretical framework to discuss these topics, with heterogenous temporal periods and intellectual affiliations represented. Submission guidelines: PhD candidates in Philosophy, Literature, History of Art, Aesthetics and related subjects are strongly encouraged to submit proposals. Please send your proposal as a PDF file, with a 500 words abstract and a 300 words CV (including degree currently under study, main publications and academic affiliation). The file name should be your surname. Proposals are to be send to lisbonconference2019@gmail.com no later than September 8, 2019. All presentations will be 20 minutes long, followed by discussion. There will be no registration fees for paper presentations and the attendance is free.
