Call For Papers

The GALE workshop (http://gale.aau.dk) will be hosted by EC-TEL 2019 (the Fourteenth European Conference on Technology Enhanced Learning - Transforming Learning with Meaningful Technologies) taking place in Delft, 16-19 September 2019.

Scope
In recent years educational institutions have face the pressure of finding new ways to ensure their students’ engagement and autonomy in learning, as well as learning outcomes which also incorporates 21st century soft skills. This tendency has led to a paradigm shift from passive listening to active learning. Within that context, the development of the Flipped Classroom (FC) is possibly one of the most emblematic endeavours to overhaul educational practices. Interest for the flipped classroom rose sharply in the early 2010s, and research in the field has revealed various and very different designs and implementations of FCs. Moreover, various learning environments and tools have been employed to support such classes. The idea behind the GALE workshop is to gather and discuss evidence on different designs and implementations of FCs. In order to achieve that, the workshop will engage its participants in hand-on activities and group discussion.
The workshop will take place in the context of the Erasmus+ Knowledge Alliance project FLIP2G (Enhancing education and training through data-driven adaptable games in flipped classrooms) (http://flip2g-project.eu).

Topics of interest
The workshop accepts submission of papers on topics that include (but are not limited to):
• Learning Design in FCs
• Design principles or patterns in FCs
• Adaptive learning in FCs
• Data-driven assessment in FCs
• Online environments and educational data creation in FCs
• Tools that support learning design in FCs
• Peer and self-assessment in FCs
• Technologies and tools that support learning in FCs
• The interplay between learning analytics and FC
• The interplay between gamification/serious games and FC

Paper submission
The workshop papers should be formatted according to the template provided on the workshop’s website. The workshop welcomes short papers (4-6 pages) or full papers (8-10 pages). Papers should be submitted in .docx format by email to evt [at] create.aau.dk. All workshop submissions will undergo a peer-review process by at least two reviewers. Authors of accepted workshop papers will be required to register to the main conference and present their paper. The accepted and presented papers will be published as an open access e-book (with an ISBN number) by Aalborg University Press.

Important dates
Submission of papers deadline: 8 July 2019
Notification of acceptance: 22 July 2019
Early-bird registration deadline: 31 July 2019
