CALL FOR PAPERS The Fifth IASTED International Conference on Human-Computer Interaction ~IASTED-HCI 2010~ August 23 – 25, 2010 Maui, Hawaii, USA SPONSOR The International Association of Science and Technology for Development (IASTED) PURPOSE The Fifth IASTED International Conference on Human-Computer Interaction (IASTED-HCI 2010) will be a major forum for international researchers and professionals to present their latest research, results, and ideas in all areas of human-computer interaction. Its aim is to strengthen relations between industry, research laboratories, and universities. CONCURRENT CONFERENCES IASTED-HCI 2010 will be held in conjunction with the IASTED International Conferences on: * Computers and Advanced Technology in Education (CATE 2010) * Signal and Image Processing (SIP 2010) * Computational Intelligence (CI 2010) * Circuits and Systems (CS 2010) LOCATION Mild weather, warm water, soft beaches, and emerald rainforests; the island of Maui's charm is irresistible. The second largest of the Hawaiian Islands, Maui was forged by two volcanoes whose lava flows overlapped, forming Maui's two distinct peaks connected by a strip of land, or isthmus. It is this isthmus for which Maui has been dubbed ‘The Valley Isle.' Dormant for the last several hundred years, the volcanic island has long been the home of the Polynesian peoples, who originally came from Tahiti and the Marquesas. The French admiral Jean-François de La Pérouse was the first European to set foot on the island in 1786, and was closely followed by traders, whalers, loggers, and missionaries. Though these visitors altered both the natural and cultural landscape of Maui, both Maui's natural beauty and rich Polynesian heritage remain well preserved. As a result, Maui is the ideal spot to swim, snorkel, hike, whale watch, explore the traditional culture of the Hawaiians, or just relax on the beach. The city of Lahaina, where our conference will be held, also offers rows of shops and restaurants where you can sample the succulent Hawaiian cuisine, including the delicious fresh fruit grown on Maui. No matter what your tastes or interests, a visit to Maui's charming shores is sure to leave you relaxed and rejuvenated. SCOPE The topics of interest to be covered by IASTED-HCI 2010 include, but are not limited to: * Analysis, Design, and Evaluation Methods * Artificial Intelligence and Agents * Computer Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW) * Computer-based Learning * Devices and Display Systems, Tools, and Interaction Techniques * Ecological Interfaces * Education about HCI * Formal Methods in HCI * Graphical User Interfaces * Groupware Interfaces * Guidelines and Design Heuristics * HCI Case Studies * HCI in Mobile, Ubiquitous, and Pervasive Computing Contexts * HCI Theories, Methods, and Practice * Intelligent Systems * Interaction Design for People with Disabilities * Interaction through Wireless Communication Networks * Interfaces for Restricted Environments * Internalization and Implications of Culture on Design * Non-Verbal Interfaces * Perceptual and Adaptive User Interfaces * Psychological Aspects of HCI * Societal Implications of HCI * Speech and Natural Language Interfaces * Support for Creativity and Learning * Theoretical Foundations of HCI * Universal Access and Usability * Usability Engineering * Usability Testing * User Interface Development * User Interface Software Tools, Architectures, and Technologies * User Modelling and Adaptation * User Profiling and Individual Differences between Users * User Support Systems * Virtual and Augmented Reality * Visions of HCI in the Future * Visual Programming INTERNATIONAL PROGRAM COMMITTEE * D.
