CARO 2013 Workshop – Call for Papers

The 7th International CARO Workshop will be held on the 16th and 17th of May 2013 at the Sheraton Hotel in Bratislava, Slovakia. The main theme of the conference will be:

The What, When and Where of Targeted Attacks

Please remember this is a technical malware workshop, and there will be no 'corporate' or marketing papers. The sessions are closed to the media and there is a strict no recording policy enforced. The organizers reserve the right to reject participants and speakers if their affiliation cannot be verified as trustworthy.

Topics
CARO was founded on the principle of exchanging information with trusted partners, so as usual, we are soliciting any papers concerning this topic.

This year, the focus of the workshop will be Targeted Attacks in the widest sense of the term. Topics can include:
Case studies of Targeted Attacks
Real Life Attack Demonstrations (PoC’s accepted)
Web-Inject Attacks/Code Insertion attacks
Man in the Browser attacks
(Targeted) Advanced Persisting Threats (APT)
(Dedicated) Advanced Evasion Techniques (AET)
Mitigation to all of the above
Identification and investigation of targeted threats
How to spot targeted attacks in collections
COINTEL (Counter Intelligence) on determined adversaries (e.g, detecting the attacker, running honeypots, etc.)
Etc.
Any topic with some relevance to Targeted Attacks will be considered.

There will be a series of 45- and 20-minute presentations, as well lightning talks each 5 minutes long. The lightning talks cover the same subjects and where lightning talks are accepted, speakers are expected to provide a poster to be manned during the following break so that questions can be asked.

Submission Details
Abstracts are due on Monday the 21st of January, 2013. Abstracts should be between 200 and 500 words in length and should be detailed enough to judge the content of the final presentation. At the time of submission, please indicate if your presentation, when the abstract is selected, will be 45 minutes or 20 minutes.

Submissions can be sent to caro2013@caro.org

If accepted, at least one author must be registered to speak as we will not accept proxies.

There is no obligation to submit a final paper or the presentation slides, but if the authors wish to, the papers and presentation will be posted on the CARO 2013 Workshop site.

Waived or Reduced Registration Fees
For each selected abstract, the registration fee will be waived or reduced for the first listed speaker. The complete registration fee will be waived for full presentations (45 minutes), and the first listed speaker for short presentations (20 minutes) will receive a 40% reduction on the registration fee. Lightning talks do not qualify for waived or reduced registration fees.
