Theologians once studied the simplest question of being so as to study the far greater question of God. Modern ontology has often attempted to build a towering structure of being, but, by failing to secure its foundations, has tended to evacuate being into nothing in postmodern nihilism.
Yet if ontology cannot contain but rather points to God, then we may once more begin to investigate new approaches to metaphysics or ontology in imitation of the Trinity. We may witness today a momentous opportunity to collaborate in the construction of new ontologies of the Trinity. In September 2019, the University of Cambridge hosted the New Trinitarian Ontologies conference. We propose to continue to promote research as we invite papers for a one-day student symposium on the intersections of ontology or metaphysics in imitation of the Trinity: - Ontology and Metaphysics - Logic and Mathematics - Phenomenology and Hermeneutics - Politics and Ecology - Poetics and Imagination - Relations and Repetition The New Trinitarian Ontologies Symposium will be free and open to students and the general public. And the proceedings will be photographed and recorded for future viewing by an online and public audience. The New Trinitarian Ontologies Symposium will be held from 9 am to 6pm in the Lightfoot Room of the University of Cambridge Faculty of Divinity on Friday 6 March 2020. A college dinner will be provided for guest speakers. Titles and Abstracts Due Friday 31 January 2020 Send Paper Proposals to NewTrinitarianOntologies@gmail.com |
