First Annual Franciscan Connections Virtual Conference
Sponsored by The Franciscan Study Center at Tilburg University and The Franciscan Institute at St. Bonaventure University Lesser Ethics: Retrieving the Good Life in the Franciscan Tradition Dates Thursday, June 24, 2021, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. (NY time) / 15.00-20.00 (CET time) Friday, June 25, 2021, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. (NY time) / 15.00-20.00 (CET time) Theme This interdisciplinary Zoom virtual conference seeks to tease out a new, more relational methodology for ethics in our time. It does so by addressing the question how we can make the Franciscan intellectual and spiritual tradition, in particular its articulation of moral goodness and concern for the common good, relevant and fruitful for a present-day ethical practice. Themes to be addressed may include, but are not limited to: Past and Present Religion and Morality Elements of a New Ethical Theory Moral Exemplarity: Stories, Virtues, Leaders The Highest Good Shared Goods Interior Goods Action and Contemplation Conversion Franciscan Ethics and Economy Franciscan Ethics and Ecology Franciscan Ethics and Modern-Day Crises Practical Matters The editors of Franciscan Connections welcome paper proposals submitted in English. Abstracts should be kept as close to 100 words as possible. Each paper should last 20 minutes, followed by 10 minutes of discussion. Papers may be published in our Lesser Ethics conference volume or on our international Franciscan blog Franciscan Connections. Paper Proposals Proposals must be submitted by March 1st, 2021.
