Information & Security: An International Journal
Special journal issue on Advanced Air and Air Defense Capabilities
Editor: Major General Constantine Popov, Chief of the Bulgarian Air Force

New security challenges and advances in technology—sensors, communications and information technologies in particular—impact the development of advanced air and air defense capabilities and the way air forces are organized and equipped for effective performance of their roles. Our expectation is that, rather than leading to one-step reorganization and restructuring of the military, these factors will bring permanent adaptation, designated recently as transformation.

To reflect the impact of these developments on air forces and related organizations, on 30 April 2010 the AFCEA-Varna Chapter held an international conference in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. Refereed papers, presented at the conference, will be published in a special issue of Information & Security: An International Journal (I&S).

In addition, the I&S Editorial Board invites contributions on the following topics:

- Roles, missions and required operational capabilities of air, air defense, space and other related organizations;
- Novel air doctrine and tactics;
- Organizing air forces for future operations; organizational challenges of network centric warfare;
- Technologies for advanced air, air defense, and space capabilities;
- Definition of priorities for technology insertion in the air force.

Of particular interest is the implementation of advanced IT to support the process of air force transformation, including technologies for:

- Unmanned flight and strike capabilities;
- Net-centric operations;
- Situational awareness;
- Collaborative decision making;
- Distributed simulation and training;
- Advanced distance learning, etc.

Interested authors shall submit their papers the I&S Managing Editor.
