CALL FOR PAPERS

MSN 2011: The 1st International Workshop on Mobile Social Networks

(in conjunction with ASONAM 2011, Kaohsiung, Taiwan, July 25-27, 2011)

http://msn2011.iis.sinica.edu.tw/

(Papers Due: March 01, 2011)
================================================================

The 1st International Workshop on Mobile Social Networks (MSN 2011) aims to bring together the professionals from Data Mining, Social Network Analysis, Information Management, Machine Learning, Networking and other related fields to study the issues and potential research topics of the social network in mobile environments.

Workshop Description
----------------------------------------

As the advance of wireless communication and high penetration of smart mobile devices, the way that people network is gradually changing. Individuals use mobile phones to converse and connect with each other frequently due to their portability and convenience. By means of the built-in microphone, high-resolution camera, GPS and g-sensor of a smart phone, people can even share their context while interacting with others. Moreover, thanks to the Wi-Fi and 3G technology, mobile users may surf the Internet and access the web-based services simply through a browser.

Targeting at the growing mobile societies, many companies provide numerous social applications such as facebook mobile, MySpace mobile, foursquare, Gowalla, Brightkite, MocoSpace, etc. With these applications, interactions among mobile users are not only one-to-one text message exchanges but also more sophisticated mobile social networks. The special characteristics of these mobile social networks are that they are location-aware, participant relationship dependent, e.g., job partners at different companies during office hours or friends at different locations during off duties, and multi-modal context sharing. In the blossom of mobile social networks, we see many potential research topics such as the modeling, the behavior analysis, the discovery of interesting knowledge, new application design and so on, which require the wisdom and knowledge of professionals from Data Mining, Social Network Analysis, Information Management, Machine Learning, Networking and other related fields.

As a result, this workshop aims at providing a forum for participants to discuss the novel ideas, developments, trends, and concerns about social networking in the growing and evolving mobile communities. We invite researchers and professionals in all related disciplines from academia, government and industry to submit their original papers related to the above objectives for publication after peer reviews. Through this workshop, we expect to inspire potential research topics, technology innovation, and practical applications of social networks in mobile environments.

Topics of interest to MSN 2011 include, but are not limited to:

* Mobile social network modeling
* Information flow, community detection, and interesting pattern discovery in mobile social networks
* Mining algorithms of mobile social networks
* Mobile social services and applications
* Security and privacy issues in mobile social networks
* User behavior modeling, mining and analysis in mobile social networks
* Human-device interaction of mobile social applications
* Location-based services integration in mobile social applications
