================================
Scope, Aims, and Topics
================================
The Innovating the Network for Data-Intensive Science (INDIS) workshop brings together network engineers and researchers to share challenges and potential solutions in the information systems and networking communities. With its inaugural appearance at SC14 in New Orleans, INDIS has become an academic forum for experts, researchers, and engineers in research and education (R&E) networking.

We invite researchers and engineers to submit high-quality academic papers to the 8th Annual International Workshop on Innovating the Network for Data-Intensive Science (INDIS 2021). The workshop will be held in conjunction with the SC21: IEEE/ACM International Conference for High Performance Computing, Networking, Storage and Analysis (SuperComputing), which will be held in St. Louis, MO, on Monday, November 15, 2021.

We invite papers that propose new and novel techniques that increase the capacity and functionality of scientific computing and wide-area networks. This workshop encourages submissions that address one or more of the following networking research challenges; and developments that are essential in the information systems infrastructure for the scientific discovery process.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Data-intensive distributed application architectures
- Software-defined networking (SDN) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV) in service of data science applications
- High-performance data transfer applications and techniques
- Science DMZs and other campus network architecture constructs
- Requirements and issues for network quality of service (QoS) or experience (QoE)
- Multi-domain networking, including hybrid clouds, multi-domain authorization, data sharing, and data privacy
- Network monitoring and traffic analytics for large and small transfers, autonomous network control
- Network management: diagnostics, troubleshooting, fault management, performance monitoring, configuration management, and scheduling
- Experiments involving BigData processing, ML/AI for Network monitoring
- High-performance network protocols and network architectures
- Securing high-speed networks
- Cross-layer network architectures and concepts

We also invite participants from both SCinet’s Network Research Exhibition (NRE) and Experimental Network (XNet) communities to submit high-quality experimental papers on their latest designs and solutions. SCinet, as the high-speed network engine of the SC conference, represents state of the art, connects many demonstrators of big science data processing infrastructures at the highest line speeds, deploys the newest technologies available, and demonstrates novel functionality. The show floor network connects to many laboratories and universities worldwide using high-bandwidth connections.

Submission Guidelines
================================
Authors are invited to submit full papers with unpublished, original work.

Full papers are limited to 10 pages using 10pt fonts in the IEEE conference format. The 10-page limit includes figures, tables, and your appendices, but does not include references, for which there is no page limit. Reproducibility initiative dependencies (Artifact Description or Computational Results Analysis) are also not included in the 10-page limit.

A separate Late-Breaking Research and Preliminary Techniques stream is also available for authors to submit 5-page papers (using 10pt fonts in the IEEE conference format) describing initial research or early first-of-a-kind results (this page limit does not include references but includes all technical content and figures).

All accepted papers (subject to post-review revisions) will be published in the SC21 conference workshop proceedings through IEEE TCHPC.

Please note that we will work to accommodate remote presenters if you are prevented from travel at the time of the conference.

Workshop papers must be submitted electronically at https://submissions.supercomputing.org/ and must follow the IEEE conference template: https://www.ieee.org/conferences/publishing/templates.html

INDIS 2021 follows the SC21 reproducibility initiative. The SC21 details can be found at:
