Call For Papers

The Texas Wesleyan Law Review is pleased to host the 2011 Energy Symposium on Thursday, March 3rd and Friday, March 4th. This will mark the third year that the Texas Wesleyan Law Review has hosted an energy-related conference. The Symposium will focus on a wide array of energy-related issues examining and exploring topics from the perspectives of the operator, royalty owner, surface owner, regulator, and municipality. Topics may include environmental, regulatory, and leasing issues, as well as operator duties, royalty calculation and payment, transportation and marketing issues, or any other issues of import to oil and gas practitioners and professionals. The Symposium will also include caselaw updates from the Second Court of Appeals and the Texas Supreme Court. The Symposium is targeted to legal practitioners, landmen, and other energy professionals.

We are now accepting proposals for papers, presenters, and panel presentations on issues related to this Symposium topic. Examples of the types of topics that we encourage authors, speakers, and panelists to submit include but are not limited to:

• Royalty calculation and payment
• Operator duties (implied and express)
• The Oil and Gas Lease
• New or emerging shale regions
• Mineral and royalty conveyances
• Surface-use issues

Interested authors and presenters should submit an abstract of no more than 500 words to texwesenergysymposium@gmail.com by November 15, 2010. Please indicate on your abstract whether you would like to only author a paper, only present on a selected topic, or both author and present a paper. A resume or curriculum vitae must also be submitted along with the abstract. Authors and presenters will be informed by December 1, 2010, of the outcome of the initial review process. Final papers will be due on March 7, 2011. Papers accepted for publication will be published in a special symposium issue of the Texas Wesleyan Law Review.
