Call For Papers

The Data, Health, and Digital Humanities (DH2) workshop is designed to provide an intensive and collegial process of peer review of draft chapters leading to publication of a volume of original scholarly research. Proposals must indicate a plan for writing and revising a chapter of approximately 3000 words within the timeline of the workshop, including revised research statements in late November 2022, a complete chapter draft by early February 2023, and a final chapter by April 2023. The workshop will begin in fall 2022 with keynote speakers Dr. Kim Gallon, Brown University, and Dr. Kathleen Kole de Peralta, Arizona State University. The workshop will prioritize research by early career scholars, defined as recipients of PhD’s within the last eight years (since 2014) or advanced doctoral students. The workshop will prioritize research projects exploring data about underrepresented, vulnerable, or marginalized populations, the experience of health in regions and chronological periods outside of dominant scholarly paradigms, and digital humanities methods and tools which examine themes related to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The workshop is funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities, in partnership with the History of Medicine Division, National Library of Medicine, and organized by Virginia Tech.
