CALL FOR PAPERS

The design and fielding of military communications systems capable of enabling network centric operations remains one of the greatest challenges facing military institutions today. Military operations can encompass enterprise and tactical networks. The challenges are particularly acute in the area of tactical wireless communications, which are typically characterized by user mobility and unpredictable transmission channels – so-called Disconnected, Intermittent and Limited (DIL) networks. Together with demanding security requirements and the need for interoperability among disparate systems, including legacy systems and those of allies, these characteristics make it difficult to leverage commercial wireless technologies to meet the needs and expectations of military applications. Several new wireless system and network design paradigms are emerging today including software-defined radio and networks, and named data networking; along with progress in network security, routing, dynamic resource allocation, and media access control. These developments are playing important role to improve the feasibility of truly network centric operations for military applications.

This Series brings together the most recent advances in military communications and networks. Papers focusing on research, development, experimentation, and deployment are solicited. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

Network Science for military communications
Cognitive radio and cognitive networking for national and coalition forces
Military applications of software defined radio/networks, named data networking, cross-layer design, and peer-to-peer networking
Tactical network characterization, modeling and emulation
Management and control in tactical networks
Protocol efficiency in DIL networks
Signaling and Quality of Service provisioning in DIL networks
Network security and information assurance in DIL networks
Dynamic spectrum allocation and management in military networks
Service-Oriented Architecture for national and coalition military systems

Submission Guidelines

Manuscripts should conform to the standard format as indicated in the Manuscript Submission Guidelines in the IEEE Communications Magazine website. Please, check these guidelines carefully before submitting since submissions not complying with them will be administratively rejected without review.

All manuscripts to be considered for publication must be submitted by the deadline through Author Portal. Select "Series Military Communications and Networks" from the dropdown menu.

Papers can be submitted anytime during the year. They will receive a review process, and, if accepted, they will be published in the first slot available for this Series.
