The Twelfth International Conference on Fun with Algorithms (FUN 2024) will be held on the island of La Maddalena, Sardinia, Italy, in June 2024, at Hotel Le Nereidi.
FUN is a series of conferences dedicated to the use, design, and analysis of algorithms and data structures, focusing on results that are "fun" but also original and scientifically solid. "Fun" can be defined in many ways: we think of fun results as being amusing or entertaining by their display of elegance, simplicity, surprise, originality, or wit. This year, FUN will host the first ever Computer Science Salon des Refusés (CSSR 2024) as a separate track named after the famous 1863 Salon des Refusés painting exhibition. It aims to be a “salon” in two senses of the word: First, “salon” as an exhibition of ideas in Computer Science that in their infancy were rejected from a major venue but later proven to be highly influential, and second “salon” as a meeting of convivial people getting together to share both amusement and learning.
The way to participate in the salon is to propose a talk which is a survey of a published CS paper (preferably with an algorithmic bent) and its aftermath. The subject paper must satisfy the following conditions:
1. It should be at least 8 years old and in its initial form should have been rejected (as lacking value) from one or more major conferences or journals in the field.
2. It was later published and proved to be influential as evidenced by citations, prizes, etc.
