Call For Papers

Calling All Rhetoricians!

For the 14th Annual Midwest Winter Workshop

The University of Wisconsin-Madison departments of Communication Arts and English, in coordination with our RSA student chapter, are thrilled to be hosting the 14th annual Midwest Winter Workshop on February 17, 2024. We cordially invite graduate students interested in any rhetoric, rhetoric-adjacent, or rhetoric-ish topics to participate!

Please submit a 250 word abstract of a work in progress by visiting our website or using the link below. After acceptance, authors will be sorted into groups based on shared topics and/or methodologies. Each group will have a faculty leader who will structure your workshop session. This is an excellent opportunity to receive feedback on a project such as a journal article manuscript, a seminar paper you would like to turn into a conference presentation, a dissertation chapter you are working through, or other works in progress.

Submission Process and Timeline:

Visit our official website at https://mww2024.commarts.wisc.edu or use the QR code below to view our call, information about the workshop, travel and lodging, and more! Our website will continually be updated with new information, so please check back!

Submit your abstract at this link: https://forms.gle/n6gKrdaHRo7pHFt4A by 11:59pm Central time on December 20, 2023. By January 7, 2024, we will ask students to share their work in progress (maximum 30 pages) with their faculty leader and workshop group. Each group member will read and comment on the papers they receive, and this feedback will be shared during your workshop on February 17, 2024.

Note that the submission form will also ask if you would like to stay with a local graduate student to help defer the cost of lodging. While this option is subject to availability, letting us know of your interest helps us plan accordingly.

Please feel free to circulate this call widely among any Midwestern graduate students and programs who may be interested!

We can’t wait to see your project!
