Aims and Scope: Over time, the agritourism industry has significantly evolved as a result of a shift in farmer attitude towards entrepreneurial opportunities. Agritourism, as it was initially conceptualized, was primarily thought of as a set of activities that take place in a rural context, despite the lack of universal consensus on its definition and which activities constitute agritourism (Chase et al, 2018). As an industry, agritourism is anchored by the general understanding that farm-related activities for the purpose of education and entertainment create opportunities for farmers to diversify revenue streams and improve farm sustainability and resiliency. As a social phenomenon, Agritourism helps foster a deeper appreciation for food systems, connection to nature and promotes mindful eating. In 2021, the global agritourism market size was valued at USD 5.95 billion, and expected to develop at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 11.4% from 2022 to 2030 (Grand View Research).

Additionally, as urban agriculture gains prominence in local food systems across the globe, the opportunity to engage in agritourism activities on urban farms is increasingly becoming more popular. This special issue explores agritourism in all of its current forms, including traditional agritourism operations, its adaptation post-COVID-19 pandemic, agri-leisure and agri-hospitality operations, and inclusion of urban agriculture operations. It is within this context that we call for case studies exploring and critically assessing the current state of agritourism worldwide. This initiative will allow multiple stakeholders to share their research and experiences, informing a historical and future outlook of agritourism. Furthermore, a collection of case studies on agritourism will create opportunities for meaningful dialogue in classrooms and research environments.

The collection will comprise real world case studies designed to share experiences and expertise from the tourism, leisure, and hospitality industries that in turn offer practical, real-life examples in one easily searchable platform. The following is an indicative list of suggested areas for case studies, though we are open to hearing other proposals as well.
