We're now accepting proposals for our 2026 conference and Volume IV of the Board Game Academics journal through March 15, 2026. If you or someone you know has an idea for a presentation or article about using tabletop gaming to contextualize, historicize, and challenge the ideologies rooted not just within gaming materials but also in their communities at large, please contact us.
Share with the world how you are using tabletop games to support more experiential pedagogies, enhance clinical practice, and engage with students and colleagues. Board Game Academics aims to present practical outcomes that support real-world applications, allowing the implementation of board games in educational, clinical, and general academic settings. Conference Details Our 2026 Board Game Academics Journal Conference will be held at the Strong National Museum of Play in Rochester, NY, October 16-18. Registration details are available at www.boardgameacademics.com/register/ to learn more about the conference and the museum. Journal Submission Details For our 2026 issue, we welcome submissions from all disciplines, fields, and academic levels and affiliations. Potential topics include, but are not limited to: Issues related to the history of tabletop games and their play. Use of tabletop games in the class. Paratextual creation (fan and otherwise) within tabletop gaming communities. Political economy of tabletop games. The mediated depictions of race, gender, sexuality, etc., within tabletop games. Abstracts of no more than 250 words for 20-30-minute presentations should be submitted to submissions@boardgameacademics.com by March 15, 2026. Please also include copies of your CV and preliminary works cited page as PDFs. Proposal acceptance will be confirmed by April 1, 2026.
