Second International Symposium on Big Data and Data Analytics in Collaboration (BDDAC 2014)
Call for Papers and Participation Part of The 2014 International Conference on Collaboration Technologies and Systems (CTS 2014) May 19-23, 2014 The Commons Hotel, Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA In Cooperation with ACM, IEEE, and IFIP Submission Deadline: December 30, 2013 SCOPE AND OBJECTIVES The challenge of “Big Data” continues to grow and is an active area of significant research. “Big Data” is usually defined by its primary attributes of volume, velocity, variety and complexity, or some combination of these. The problem domains include scientific disciplines such as astronomy and biology, business disciplines such as marketing and security, law enforcement and even natural language processing as part, for example, of automated real time speech translation. While social media, so pervasive nowadays, is one of the main contributors to vast amounts of Big Data around the world, several other diverse sources such as fixed and mobile sensors, secondary data generated by physical simulations, transactional records from high speed trading systems, and high volume business record analytics also constitute important areas of research. Creating effective applications and solutions that work for real world “Big Data” problems requires both, collaborative technology and multi-disciplinary teams. These applications may leverage Big Data platforms, such as open source LexisNexis HPCC Systems and Hadoop platforms, or may involve novel approaches. You are cordially invited to participate in, contribute to, and attend the International Symposium on Big Data and Data Analytics in Collaboration (BDDAC 2014) to be held as part of CTS 2014 (http://cts2014.cisedu.info/) May 19-23, 2014 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA. The Symposium is to address, explore and exchange information on the state-of-the-art and practice in the broad multidisciplinary field of Big Data. Participation is extended to researchers, designers, educators and interested parties in all disciplines and specialties (computer science, linguistics, psychology, statistics, sociology, multimedia and semantic web technologies, …). The BDDAC Symposium topics include (but are not limited to) the following: This symposium solicits contributions that address contemporary and future challenges in big data and data analytics, particularly in collaboration systems, social networks, and information technologies. * Theories and Methodologies for Big Data processing * Architectures and Design of Big Data processing systems * Big Data infrastructure, scientific data infrastructure * Security and privacy issues in Big Data * Computing languages applied to Big Data processing and analytics * Qualitative and Quantitative Studies of high performance data intensive computing systems * Machine Learning Methods applied to Big Data analytics * Natural Language Processing methodologies * Semantic Web analytics * Data Modeling for Social Networks * Discovery, Collection, and Extraction of information in Big Data sources * Processing of Big Data Streaming * Collaborative Filtering and Recommendation Systems * Text Categorization; Topic Recognition * Subjectivity in Textual Data; Sentiment Analysis; Polarity/Opinion Identification and Extraction * Big Data Mining and Discovery * Large-scale Social Image and Video Analysis and Retrieval * Security and Risk in Big Data processing and analytics * Privacy and Big Data analytics * Trust, Reputation and Recommendation Systems * Big Data Visualization * Leveraging Big Data in the Enterprise * Performance and Benchmarking for Big Data processing and analytics * NoSQL systems and Big Data * Distributed data-intensive computing systems * Semantic content extraction and analytics languages and techniques * Ontology representations and processing in Big Data PAPER SUBMISSION You are invited to submit original and unpublished research works on above and other topics related to Big Data and Data Analytics in Collaboration and social Nets. Submitted papers must not have been published or simultaneously submitted elsewhere. Submissions could be for full papers, short papers, poster papers, or posters (please specify). Submission should include a cover page with authors' names, affiliation addresses, fax numbers, phone numbers, and email addresses. Please, indicate clearly the corresponding author(s) and include up to 6 keywords from the above list of topics and an abstract of no more than 400 words. The full manuscript should be at most 8 pages using the two-column IEEE format. Additional pages are allowed but will be charged additional fee. Short papers (up to 4 pages), poster papers and poster (please refer to http://cts2014.cisedu.info/home/posters for posters submission details) will also be accepted. Please include page numbers on all preliminary submissions to make it easier for reviewers to provide helpful comments. Submit a PDF copy of your full manuscript of regular or short paper via the Symposium submission Web page at https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=bddac2014 . If the submission is for a poster paper or short paper, indicate that on the manuscript and in the uploading form Notes field. Each paper will receive a minimum of three reviews. Papers will be selected based on their originality, relevance, contribution, technical clarity, and presentation. Submission implies the willingness of at least one of the authors to register and present the paper, if accepted. Authors of accepted papers must guarantee that their papers will be registered and presented at the Symposium. Accepted papers will be published in the Conference proceedings. Instructions for final manuscript format and requirements will be posted on the CTS 2014 Conference web site. It is our intent to have the proceedings formally published in hard and soft copies and be available at the time of the conference. The proceedings is projected to be included in the IEEE Digital Library and indexed in all major indexing services accordingly. If you have any questions about paper submission or the Symposium, please contact the Symposium organizers.
