Workshop on INNOVATIVE OPERATION SYSTEM CONCEPTS (WIOSC)

Chemnitz, Germany, March 14, 2009, held in conjunction with

11th CHEMNITZ LINUX DAYS

http://osg.informatik.tu-chemnitz.de/wiosc09/
*********************************************************************

The "Chemnitz Linux Days" is one of Europe's largest conventions on open source software. Every year since 1998, creative and active people are meeting in Saxony's city of Chemnitz to share new ideas and discuss new developments of Linux and associated topics.

In 2009, for the first time the Chemnitz Linux Days will be accompanied by a scientific event: The Workshop on Innovative Operating System Concepts. The workshop's goal is to combine the spirit of commitment and creativity that characterize the Linux Days with the seriousness and high standards of the scientific community.
Workshop Scope
The WIOSC focuses on new and innovative concepts in the field of operating systems. The workshop welcomes contributions on general approaches and concepts, new and/or controversial ideas and upcoming issues rather than introductions of newly implemented features of a certain operating system. We want to encourage both, academic and industrial submissions. Also papers on work in progress are welcome.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

* Adaptable and configurable OS
* Architecture
* Design paradigms, e.g., MDA or AOP
* Distributed systems
* Embedded OS
* Mobility
* Multimedia support
* Real time
* Scheduling
* Security
* Special purpose OS
* User interfaces

The workshop does not focus exclusively on open source operating systems, but aims to support discussion and an intensive exchange of ideas between different parts of the operating systems community (academic, commercial, open source, etc.)
Workshop Location
The workshop will be held in Chemnitz, the third largest city in the German state Saxony. It is situated directly at the border of the Ore Mountains (Erzgebirge), in the west of Dresden and the south of Leipzig.

Due to support by sponsores, workshop's fee will be quite reasonable (approximately Euro 50). This fee covers the entry to all events of the Linux Days, including the Linux Days Dinner.
Submission Guidelines
All papers must represent original and unpublished work. Each paper will be subject of a reviewing process. Papers will be evaluated according to their significance, originality, technical content, style, clarity, and relevance to the workshop. At least one author of each accepted paper is expected to attend the workshop.

Papers must not exceed 12 pages in ACM SIG Proceedings style. The author kit containing templates for the required style can be found at http://www.acm.org/sigs/pubs/proceed/template.html. Please apply the ACM Computing Classification categories and terms, which can be found at http://www.acm.org/class/1998/. More detailed submission instructions will be posted at the workshops this web site.
