Call for Papers:
Workshop: Database Technology for Data Management in Life Sciences and Medicine (DBLM?09) In conjunction with: 20th International Conference on Database and Expert Systems Applications (DEXA'09) www.dexa.org University of Linz, Austria August 31 - September 4, 2009 Life sciences and medicine are very data intensive disciplines. Modern technologies such as micro-arrays, high-throughput mass-spectrometry, high-resolution imaging, and huge literature databases provide new challenges for scientists and medical practitioners. There has never been more potentially available information to study biological systems like cells, organs, or patients. However, it is a non-trivial task to transform the vast amount of biomedical data into useful information supporting scientific progress and/or patient management. Major challenges for research in the database community include but are not limited to: - Data integration, - Database-supported process management in healthcare, - Electronic patient record, - Data exchange in healthcare (standards and markup languages), - Design of information systems and data warehouses for biological and medical applications, - Mining biological and medical data: clustering, classification, rule-mining, - Integrative mining of heterogeneous data, - Integration of data mining primitives into biological and medical databases, - Biological and medical image processing and -retrieval, - Privacy in data management and data mining. Papers must be submitted electronically in PDF format before March 24, 2009 via the DEXA'09 ConfDriver. Papers must not exceed 5 pages in IEEE format (cf. www.ieee.org/web/publications/authors/transjnl/index.html). All accepted papers will be published in the proceedings of DEXA?09 Workshops with IEEE CSP. One of the authors of an accepted paper must register to DEXA?09 conference for paper presentation.
