DS 2014 provides an open forum for intensive discussions and exchange of new ideas among researchers working in the area of Discovery Science. The scope of the conference includes the development and analysis of methods for discovering scientific knowledge, coming from machine learning, data mining, and intelligent data analysis, as well as their application in various scientific domains.

We welcome papers that focus on the analysis of different types of complex data, such as structured, spatio-temporal and network data. We particularly welcome papers addressing applications. Finally, we would like to encourage contributions from the areas of computational scientific discovery, mining scientific data, computational creativity and discovery informatics.

Submissions

Submitted papers may contain up to twelve (12) pages and must be formatted according to the layout supplied by Springer-Verlag for the Lecture Notes in Computer Science series. The proceedings of selected papers will be published within these series.

Authors of the excellent papers included in the conference proceedings will be invited to submit revised versions to the special issue of the Machine Learning journal on Discovery Science.

Submissions may not have appeared in or be under consideration for another conference or a journal, nor may they be under review or submitted to another forum during the DS-2014 review process.

An excellent student paper will be selected to receive the Carl Smith Award, which carries a scholarship prize of 555 EUR.

Location

The host town Bled lies in the north-west of Slovenia, at the heart of the Julian Alps and under Slovenia's highest mountains. This thousand-year-old municipality is one of Slovenia's premiere tourist resorts.

Bled is not as far away as you might think! It is located 55 km from Ljubljana (capital of Slovenia), 45 km from the Italian and Austrian borders and 35 km from Ljubljana international airport. It has good flight and train connections to major European cities.
