ICWL is an annual international conference on web-based learning. Since the
first ICWL was held in Hong Kong in 2002, it has been held in Australia (2003), China (2004), Hong Kong (2005), Malaysia (2006), United Kingdom (2007), and China (2008). The 8th ICWL 2009 will be held in Aachen, Germany, a city with rich culture, high-tech research, and a truly European spirit. ICWL 2009 will be jointly organized by Hong Kong Web Society, RWTH Aachen University, and Max-Planck-Institute for Computer Science. The technical program will feature keynote addresses, workshops, tutorials, in addition to presentations of refereed papers. Areas of interest include but are not limited to the following: * Technology Enhanced Learning * Web-based Learning for Oriental Languages * Mobile Learning * Social Software and Web 2.0 for Technology Enhanced Learning * Learning Resource Deployment, Organization and Management * Design, Model and Framework of E-learning Systems * E-learning Metadata and Standards * Educational Gaming and Multimedia Storytelling for Learning * Practice and Experience Sharing * Pedagogical Issues Paper Submissions: Authors are invited to submit original papers on research results or novel applications in web-based learning. Papers for submissions should be formatted in single column of no more than 10 pages in single line spacing and in PDF format for review. All accepted papers will appear in the conference proceedings. All accepted full papers presented in the conference will be published as a volume in Springer Lecture Notes in Computer Science (tentative). It is further planned that authors of the best papers will be invited to submit their extended versions for special issues of relevant journals. The purpose of a workshop is to provide participants with the opportunity to present and discuss novel research ideas on active and emerging topics in web-based learning. )From the 19th-21st of August, 2009, the eighth ICWL 2009 will be held at the RWTH Aachen University in Aachen, Germany The ICWL Program Committee invites researchers from industry and academia to take this opportunity and submit WORKSHOP PROPOSALS on hot topics in the scope of the conference. All proposals will be reviewed and evaluated by the ICWL Organizing Committee. Workshop attendees have to register and pay for the full ICWL conference. IMPORTANT DATES Workshop Proposals Submission Deadline: March 1, 2009 Notification of acceptance: March 20, 2009 Distribution of accepted workshop CfPs: March 25, 2009 ICWL 2009 conference: August 19-21, 2009 WORKSHOPS REQUIREMENTS FOR SUBMISSION Workshop proposals should be no longer than 4 pages and should include the following information: * General information: - Name of the workshop - Names, affiliations, and a short bio of the organizers (we encourage international teams of organizers from different institutions) * A description of the workshop: - Workshop topic - Relevance of the workshop to the conference - Target audience: who might be interested in the workshop and why - Expected number of participants - Goals and format (oral presentations, posters, discussion groups, etc.) * A draft of the workshop's call for papers: - A list of specific topics of interest - Important dates (proposed submission deadline: March 1, 2009; proposed notification of acceptance: March 20, 2009) - URL of site to host the workshop - Preliminary list of the Program Committee with their affiliation - A description of the paper reviewing and selection process - Expected duration of the workshop (half a day or a full day) SUBMISSION Please email your proposal as a PDF attachment directly to the workshop chairs (Frederick Li and Baltasar Fernandez-Manjon) at balta@fdi.ucm.es and frederick.li@durham.ac.uk.
