In the past decade Turkey has experienced significant economic, social, and political changes. These developments are reflected in the more ambitious role the country has taken in regional and international affairs, its emergence as a presence in the global economy, in the marked expansion of its economic middle-class and Anatolian bourgeois class, and in a noticeable falling away of enthusiasm towards the goal of EU membership. With a broad focus on new identity formations, the aim has to be to come to a more informed understanding of how domestic and international factors have shaped Turkey in the last centuries. The ‘International Review of Turkish Studies’ will bring together a diverse range of prominent voices from within and outside Turkey, each offering a critical analysis from the perspective of their own field of expertise. Through this inclusive approach, we hope to reach beyond our core academic audience and appeal to a range of broader ones.

The main aim of the academic journal ‘International Review of Turkish Studies’ is to expand and organize Turkey-related articles. This includes all the articles concerning:
• History of Turks, a people whose history as a distinct entity extends 2000 years. (History of the Republic of Turkey, history of the Ottoman Empire, history of Turks as it extends to Central Asia, is the "History of Turks");
• History of Anatolia, a land whose name has been used interchangeably with Turkey (including archeological and pre-Turkish ancient history);
• Republic of Turkey and its predecessor states like the Ottoman Empire and the Seljuk Empire and others (both social as political);
• Modern Turkish people, including its diaspora, and their culture in its broadest sense (Turkish language, dialects, literature, architecture, art and other cultural topics included).

The deadline for proposals is one month before the issue of International Review of Turkish Studies is to be published. IRTS is a quarterly journal that appears four times a year in March, June, September and December.

Details
- IRTS accepts articles in the English, Dutch and Turkish languages but prefers English.
- If the article is not in English, there needs to be an abstract in English of no more then one page (approximately 350-500 words);
- Essays need to be between 10-20 pages and 5000-10.000 words;
- Illustrations are only permitted if they are necessary and crucial;
- Both the ‘De Buck’- and ‘Harvard-method’ are accepted;
