CALL FOR WORKSHOP AND TUTORIAL PROPOSALS
*************************************************
A series of workshops and tutorials will be held in conjunction with MobiCASE'11 to encourage the exchange of ideas between academia, industry, and government participants, as well as to provide a forum to discuss important topics in mobile computing. Workshop and tutorials will be held on the last day of the conference on October 27th, 2011.

Researchers, practitioners and stake holders are invited to organize workshops and tutorials at MobiCASE’11. Workshop organizers should invite contributions from the broader community on emerging trends, research challenges, opportunities and controversial issues in services and applications enabled, impacted and/or required by mobile computing, where a focused dialogue among participants may lead to interesting follow up research, empirical investigations or industrial practice improvement. Tutorials sessions, on the other hand, would take the form of presentations by the organizers or their invited speakers on recent developments in the focus topic. The topics that we are soliciting include, but are NOT limited to:

* Mobile cloud computing and services
* Energy efficiency and green computing
* Collaborative and distributed data collection and analysis
* Citizen journalism enabled by ubiquitous connectivity
* Social networking
* Mobility-enabled emergency response
* Promoting health and wellness using mobile devices
* Security and privacy in communications and networks
* Infrastructure management using mobile devices
* Socioeconomic implications of ubiquitous connectivity
* Novel applications of mobile computing


Proposals should clearly state the topic and overall objectives, and should include short curriculum vitae of the proposed organizers. Information about workshops that were organized in previous MobiCASE conferences are available at http://www.mobicase.org/previousyears.shtml

MobiCASE'11 WORKSHOP AND TUTORIAL PROPOSAL GUIDELINES
**************************************************************
Proposals must not exceed four pages in length and should be submitted electronically in PDF format to Soheil Ghiasi (ghiasi@ucdavis.edu) and Davide Brunelli (brunelli@disi.unitn.it). Proposals should contain:

*The motivation and objective of the workshop or tutorial
-A tentative title, and 2-3 sentences to briefly describe the motivation and objectives of the proposed workshop or tutorial (Note: If your proposal is accepted then this description will be used as early publicity for the workshop or tutorial).
-A more detailed discussion of the anticipated outcomes (e.g., open research problems to pursue, validation objectives, empirical studies, etc.).

*The format and needed services
-What will be the format of the workshop or tutorial (e.g., paper presentations, keynotes, breakout sessions, panel-like discussions, combination thereof)?
-What are the requirements in terms of rooms, equipment and support staff?
-Organizers can work with the co-chairs to specify the services they wish to employ.

*The target audience
-What type of background should the attendees have?
-What mix of industry and research participants is being sought?
-What is the cap (max number of attendees) for the workshop or tutorial?
-Is the session open to the public or by invitation only?

*The workshop paper format, types of contributions and evaluation
-What type of papers is being solicited for the workshop (length, position, etc.)?
-What type of evaluation process will be used?
-The potential program committee (how large will the PC be)?

*The workshop paper publishing plans
-We intend to publish workshop proceedings in the IEEE digital library.
If you wish to follow a different publishing plan, then describe how you intend to disseminate workshop proceedings.

*The workshop or tutorial duration
-Workshops tend to take half or full day. Tutorials are likely to be shorter than workshops.

*The history of the workshop or tutorial
-Have you offered this workshop or tutorial before? If so, please provide a history of the venues, dates, and approximate attendance numbers.

*Short biographies of all the organizers

EVALUATION CRITERIA

Workshop and tutorial proposals will be reviewed by the MobiCASE'11 Workshop Program Committee.
Acceptance will be based on:
*Evaluation of the workshop or tutorial’s potential to advance the state of research and/or practice in mobile computing
*Relevance to mobile computing and topics targeted for MobiCASE'11
*Potential for attracting a sufficient number of participants
*Organizers ability to lead a successful workshop
