The urban life represents more and more a conglomerate that draws the social, cultural, economical and political trends for increasingly extended areas. From the little town to the big metropolitan areas and conurbations, the detachment by the natural medium, by traditions and by organic solidarity have generated new artificially processes, phenomenon and manifestations that try to assure a continuous adaptation to life style difficult to estimate few decades ago. The urban regeneration of the physic and symbolic mediums under the pressure of the continuous extensions of the specific communities represent nowadays a content that cannot be managed without an adequate knowledge of them manifestations and consequences.
The special issue of the journal Romanian Sociology (Sociologie Românească) (3/2011), is open to papers that wants to contribute to the identification and clarification of the contemporary processes, phenomenon’s and manifestations that represent serious challenges for urban communities. Innovative theoretical analyses, case studies and examples of good practices from multidisciplinary points of view (sociological, anthropological, social works, cultural studies, urban planning, architecture etc.) are very welcomed.
