EmpiRE 2011 - International Workshop on Empirical Requirements Engineering
Trento, Italy - August 30, 2011 @ Requirements Engineering 2011 http://selab.fbk.eu/empire2011/ ========================== The first International Workshop on Empirical Requirements Engineering (EmpiRE) encourages the cross-fertilization between Requirements Engineering and Empirical Software Engineering. On one side, EmpiRE promotes the exchange of ideas to understand why and how empirical methods from Empirical Software Engineering can assess existing or new approaches in Requirements Engineering. On the other side, EmpiRE intends to push toward new evaluation techniques, domains and problems for exercising empirical methods or building new ones. The topics of interest of the workshop include all the concerns related to the join of Requirements Engineering and Empirical Software Engineering and, in particular, the following: - Research method and evaluation techniques in requirements engineering; - State of the art in the field of empirical studies (e.g., surveys, case studies and experiments) in requirements engineering; - Critical factors, properties and metrics of requirements engineering approaches to be empirically evaluated; - Approaches and techniques to conduct empirical studies and comparative evaluations; - Different types of approaches and techniques to evaluate requirements engineering research; - Experimental designs for empirical studies; - Frameworks and infrastructures for experimentations; - Definition and development of benchmarks for experimental evaluations; - Reporting on the results of empirical studies about techniques, methods and tools in requirements engineering; - Lessons learned in running empirical studies and comparative evaluations; - Identification of strengths and weaknesses of empirical and comparative evaluation approaches; -... ========================== Contribution format We solicit submissions in the following categories: - Technical papers (max 8 pages in IEEE format). Full papers describing empirical experiences in requirements engineering and reporting the results of such experiences - Position papers (max 4 pages in IEEE format). Short papers introducing the position of the author/s on any of the topics within the scope of the workshop or visionary papers exploiting new ideas about the contribution of the empirical method in requirements engineering. - Young Position papers (max 4 pages in IEEE format). Short papers written by PhD/master students presenting the experimentation they performed/plan to perform during their research work. All the submissions to the workshop will be peer reviewed by three members of the Program Committee. Acceptance will be primarily based on originality, contribution to the area, ability to generate discussion, quality of the paper and of the research, research completeness and maturity. Young position papers will be reviewed, but more "helpfully" than "critically". Only original papers not submitted to journals or other conferences will be considered. All submissions must be in English. All the accepted papers will be published in the IEEE digital library with the support of the RE 2011 conference. Authors of the best papers presented at EmpiRE 2011 will be invited to extend their work for possible inclusion in a special issue of Journal of Software and Systems - Elsevier (under negotiation). ========================== Important dates Abstract submission: June, 1 2011 All paper categories: June, 6 2011 Notification: July, 5 2011 Camera Ready: July, 18 2011 Workshop: August, 30 2011 ========================== Workshop format The workshop will be organized based on different sessions: - Invited speaker presentations by Prof. Neil Maiden (City University London, UK) and by Prof. Fabio Massacci (University of Trento, Italy) - Traditional presentations of the submitted contributions - Tutorial about experimentation by Prof. Massimiliano Di Penta, University of Sannio, Italy - Panel discussion among experts working on Requirements Engineering and Empirical Software Engineering to discuss the cross-fertilization ========================== Organizing Committee Maya Daneva, University of Twente, The Netherlands Vincenzo Gervasi (chair), University of Pisa, Italy Andrea Herrmann, Axivion, Germany Alessandro Marchetto, FBK, Italy Oscar Pastor, Universidad Politecnica de Valencia, Spain Marco Torchiano, Politecnico di Torino, Italy ========================== Program Committee Maya Daneva, University of Twente, The Netherlands Vincenzo Gervasi, University of Pisa, Italy Andrea Herrmann, Axivion, Germany Alessandro Marchetto, FBK, Italy Oscar Pastor, Universidad Politecnica de Valencia, Spain Marco Torchiano, Politecnico di Torino, Italy Massimiliano Di Penta, University of Sannio, Italy Filippo Ricca, University of Genova, Italy Mehrdad Sabetzadeh, Simula Research Laboratory, Norway Roel Wieringa, University of Twente, The Netherlands Andreas Jedlitschka, Fraunhofer IESE, Germany Bjorn Regnell, Lund University, Sweden Fabio Masacci, University of Trento, Italy Susan Elliott Sim, University of California, USA Anna Perini, FBK, Italy Giulio Antoniol, Ecole Polytechnique de Montreal, Canada Pete Sawyer, Lancaster University, UK Dan Berry, University of Waterloo, Canada Dietmar Pfahl, Lund University Sweden Angelo Susi, FBK, Italy Olly Gotel, Independed Researcher, USA Daniela Damian, University of Victoria, Canada Jane Cleland-Huang, De Paul University, USA Jolita Ralyte, University of Geneva, Switzerland Mahmood Niazi, Keele University, UK Joerg Doerr, Fraunhofer IESE & University Kaiserslautern, Germany Barbara Paech, University Heidelberg, Germany Norbert Seyff, City University London, UK ========================== |
