Call For Papers

Scope:

The last decade has witnessed a sharp upsurge of cutting-edge research activity conducted towards the efficient utilisation of resources in communications systems, whose motivation mainly lies on a significant increase of the number of terminals, functionalities, applications and services present in emerging wireless communication scenarios, e.g. mobile and vehicular communications, densely-deployed sensor networks and adhoc networking, among others. In this context, the configuration and management of such communication systems entail optimization problems of significant complexity focused on different related aspects such as the minimization of the energy consumption in battery-powered networks or the maximization of the radio coverage in network deployments. Unfortunately, such optimization paradigms are still far from a practical solution.

To overcome this lack of implementable communication schemes, the latest research trends aim at balancing the trade-off between optimization efficiency and practicality in diverse yet related applications, ranging from dynamic allocation of available resources as a function of the network conditions/status to the design of efficient network topologies, modulation and detection techniques, localization, navigation, positioning or, in general, any other complexity-aware data processing approaches.

Beyond traditional mathematical methods for relaxed optimization, this session particularly emphasizes on soft computing approaches (e.g. bio-inspired processing, fuzzy systems, evolutionary algorithms, hybrid heuristics or neural computing) as powerful yet complexity-efficient tools to solve theoretically-intractable optimization problems in wireless communications systems. Specifically, we stress on the capacity of these algorithms to adapt to time-varying highly-constrained optimization problems as those encountered in mobile wireless networks. This session intends to be a forum for scientists and practitioners from academia and industry where to discuss their latest advances on this topic in a collaborative and multi-disciplinary fashion. High-quality contributions are solicited, with clear and provable originality and novelty over the related state of the art. Submitted works must not have been published or under consideration by any other journal, conference or workshop.

Selected papers will be invited for publication in an International SCI-indexed Journal (to be confirmed). All the submitted papers will be strictly peer reviewed by at least two anonymous reviewers.
