Call For Papers

NordiCHI is the main Nordic forum for human-computer interaction research, with the conference proceedings published in ACM Digital Library. NordiCHI gathers together academics and practitioners to present and discuss challenges and achievements in human-computer interaction from diverse perspectives. DIViS 2014 workshop will be held in conjunction with the 8th Nordic Conference on Human-Computer Interaction (NordiCHI '14) at Helsinki, Finland, October 27, 2014.

Visualization has different purposes, from representing complex structures or processes to allowing intuitive interaction with data or models. It also supports the aesthetics and enhances the user experience. The current smart device paradigm (i.e., smartphones and tablets) brings new challenges to mobile environments, as it mainly focuses on information utilization rather than information creation. In this context, visualization can play an important role for the interaction with these devices and successful execution of the user’s required tasks. This requires not only an intuitive collaboration between the interaction/UX designers and the visualization/HCI experts, but also needs a focusing on novel visualization approaches and techniques.

In DIViS 2014 workshop, we will discuss different issues and limitations regarding designing and implementing interactive visualization for smart devices, as well as how to overcome these limits through novel approaches and techniques.

TOPICS
-------
DIViS 2014 is dedicated to observations, concepts, approaches, techniques, and practices that allow understanding, facilitating, and increasing the awareness of the role of designing and implementing interactive visualization for smart devices and mobile environments.

In the above context, topics of interest for paper submissions include, but are not limited to:

- Novel visualization techniques and methods targeting smart devices and mobile apps
- Frameworks and approaches for designing interactive visualization
- Novel visual interactive techniques targeting smart devices
- Scalability issues
- Context and usage issues
- Accessibility and usability issues
- Augmented reality environments/3D visualization
- User-centric visualization
- Testing/Evaluation
- Tools and environments to support the designing and building of interactive visualization
- Case studies and best practices

SUBMISSIONS
------------

The submitted papers should be 4 to 8 pages long using the SIGCHI Extended Abstract Format (http://www.sigchi.org/publications/chipubform)

Submissions must be written in English. All papers submitted to the workshop must be unpublished original work and must not have been submitted elsewhere for publication. The selection of papers will be based on workshop relevance, academic rigor, innovation, industrial applicability, quality of writing and for their ability to trigger discussions. Submissions must be in PDF format and submitted electronically via EasyChair (https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=divis2014).

SPECIAL BOOK:
-------------
Springer Special Book:DIViS 2014 is an official event of IFIP (International Federation for Information Processing) and the extended versions of the workshop accepted papers will be published in a special book by Springer.

IMPORTANT DATES
----------------
Submission deadline: Friday, September 05, 2014 (Extended Deadline!)
Notification of acceptance: Friday, September 19, 2014
Camera-ready submission: Friday, September 29, 2014
Workshop: Monday, October 27, 2014

Note that all submission deadlines are firm. All submission deadlines are 23:59 (CET – Central European Time).

REGISTRATION:
------------
At least one of the authors of each accepted paper is required to register for the workshop and at least one day of the NordiCHI 2014 conference. For further details about registration, please visit NordiCHI '14 registration webpage (http://nordichi2014.org/registration). In the case if the participant wants to register only the workshop (without any full or one day registration at the main conference), the workshop registration fee will be charged double.
