The International Conference of Digital Archives and Digital Humanities, DADH, was first held by the Research Center for Digital Humanities, National Taiwan University in 2009. As of 2022, this year marks 13 years of the conference, which was the first international conference on digital humanities ever held in Asia. Taiwan has enjoyed outstanding reputation in its research and development progress in the field of digital humanities; the International Conference of Digital Archives and Digital Humanities (hereinafter called DADH) has constantly seen dedication from researchers in related fields till this day. DADH has developed into a crucial international conference under the trend. Previous conferences had welcomed researchers from the USA, Germany, the UK, Japan, Singapore, and China. At the same time, this conference also attracts domestic academic societies’ and students’ participation in the field.

Different from the digital humanities development abroad, the development of digital humanities in Taiwan is built on decades of research in digital archives, with various works such as research tools, platforms, and models. Nonetheless, with the end of the National Digital Archives Program, numerous data have been left unarchived in tandem. Therefore, the future path for digital archives is to focus on the integration of digital tools and humanities, which informs the new direction in academia. As such, the theme of the thirteenth DADH centers around digital learning and digital humanities. Firstly, teaching methods have undergone extensive changes due to Covid-19 since 2020; the limited development of new methods including distance education, diverse learning, and interactive learning have caught considerable attention. Simultaneously, experiences and problems cultivated from such practices require reflections and suggestions from scholars. Secondly, the rise of awareness in Taiwan society of social responsibilities from universities has emphasized the functions of higher education to the general society. Education, being the core mission of universities, should further develop digital learning that travels beyond classrooms as well as breaking the boundaries of age, time, and space. Digital learning should consequently play a vital role in universities’ research and development goals. The College of Liberal Arts in National Chung Hsing University has prioritized digital humanities as its development focus since 2020, with the hope of increasing teaching and research capacities in teachers as well as competitiveness in students. The thirteenth DADH welcomes scholars and experts in the field of digital humanities in Taiwan and abroad; where experience exchanges in digital learning will take place and digital humanities research cases will be shared and discussed. We hope to achieve the overall goal of “expanding and deepening global digital humanities infrastructure; establishing Taiwan’s international leading position in the field of digital humanities; planning and leading the future development of digital humanities worldwide.”
