Call For Papers

The purpose of this conference is to aim at the development of international digital humanities, to carry out system and technology research and development-oriented results publication, standard research, international exchange and cooperation planning.

DH (Digital-humanities) is an emerging international research field. With the rapid growth of information technology, DH is also flourishing at an unprecedented speed. Europe, the United States and Asian countries have established relevant academic research institutions and community organizations, and Taiwan has also taken a place in this trend. The establishment of the Taiwan Association for Digital Humanities (TADH) symbolizes that Taiwan's past digital collections and digital humanities research have developed into a solid research community, which gathers and integrates the research strength of Taiwan's academic circles and participates in international digital humanities-related research organizations. As the annual conference, DADH has been an international conference for Taiwan's digital archives and digital humanities to publish the most important research results of the year. It is also an important occasion for Taiwan to showcase its accumulated research results to the international academic community and to communicate with advanced research in the international academic community.

One of the important purposes of hosting DADH is to provide an important platform for the sharing of academic achievements in digital humanities research and international exchanges, to promote exchanges and close interaction between Taiwan and international academic circles, and to deepen the foundation of digital humanities research. Different from the development of digital humanities in foreign countries, Taiwan's digital humanities research is based on decades-long digital archives, and digital humanities research tools, platforms, and models are established on this basis. However, with the end of the national digital collection project, many materials were gradually forgotten and lost due to the termination of the project. How to make the most effective use and integration of these lost “digital archaeological relics” with the new digital achievements that have been continuously produced later, and how to conduct more multi-dimensional digital humanities research with the assistance of artificial intelligence, digital tools or platforms, will be It is one of the avenues for future research and development. Observing from previous DADH themes, in 2014, “Crossover & Transformation” was proposed, which means that the academic circle pays attention to the interdisciplinary application of digital humanities. The emphasis on “Focusing on East Asia” in 2015 showed that Taiwan has a pioneering position in the field of digital humanities, especially in East Asia. From 2016 to 2018, “Digital Scholars, the Emergence of an Emerging Field?”, “Digital Humanities Evolution: Past, Present, and Future” and “Facing the Era of AI + DH” were selected, reflecting the gradual development of digital humanities. It has become the focus of domestic scholars and is a new field that has received much attention. From 2019 to 2021, the theme of the conference will turn to the cross-border combination of “Digital Humanities and Social Trends”, “Smart Data╳Digital Humanities”, and “Practical Data╳Digital Humanities”, respectively linking social trends, AI artificial intelligence and network technology, etc. It fully demonstrates that DH has the characteristics of cross-field integration and full of development potential. The theme of the 2022 DADH conference was “e-Learning╳Digital Humanities”. On the one hand, due to the impact of the new coronavirus disease since 2020, the global teaching pattern has undergone tremendous changes. In the past few years, new teaching forms such as distance teaching, multi-learning, and interactive learning, which have been limited in development, have become new tools that have attracted much attention in just one year. Of course, many experiences and problems have been accumulated, which await more reflection by the academic community. On the other hand, in recent years, Taiwanese society has gradually become aware of the social responsibility of universities, emphasizing the role of higher education in facing society. Education is the core of university operations. Digital learning that transcends the limitations of classrooms and age, time, and space should be an important goal of university development research.

In 2023, DADH will take “Emerging from Southern Taiwan╳e-Research╳Digital Humanities” as the theme. In addition to continuing the achievements and development of digital humanities research in previous conferences; through this conference holding in southern Taiwan, a large number of teachers will be invited from local area, and exchange research results with participating scholars. This year's conference adopts a double-home format. The first and second days of the three-day conference will be held in the academic lecture hall of the College of Liberal Arts of National Cheng Kung University and the surrounding conference rooms. The third day of the conference will be held in the co-organizer National Taiwan Museum of History. In order to lead the participating scholars to better understand the research results of the Taiwan Museum of History in digital humanities.
