"Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery" (DMKD) Stream in
the 23rd European Conference on Operational Research (EURO), Bonn, Germany, July 5-8, 2009 and Special Issue "KDD for Decision Making and Optimisation", International Journal of Business Intelligence and Data Mining (IJBIDM) [www.inderscience.com/ijbidm] Guest Editor: Yannis Theodoridis URLs: http://infolab.cs.unipi.gr/events/dmkd-euro2009/ ; http://www.euro-2009.de/ ------------------------------ IMPORTANT DATES * Deadline for abstract submission: March 1, 2009 * Notification of acceptance (EURO abstracts): March 31, 2009 * Deadline for author registration (for inclusion in the programme): April 15, 2009 * Deadline for full article submission (IJBIDM submissions): May 26, 2009 * EURO Conference: July 5-8, 2009 * Notification of acceptance (for IJBIDM special issue): September 21, 2009 * IJBIDM special issue: scheduled for Q1 2010 ------------------------------ AIM AND SCOPE Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery (DMKD) is a well-established interdisciplinary field in the crossroads of statistics, operational research, machine learning and database management, with great applications in several fields, such as decision making and optimisation issues. Raw datasets complexity and volume ask for robust pre-processing techniques, high-quality analysis relies on sophisticated, high-performance DMKD techniques, algorithms and infrastructures, while efficient post-processing of data mining results is also an emerging request. EURO conference is the leading European event of researchers and professionals in Operational Research. Following the success of the previous DMKD stream at EURO'2007, a "Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery" Stream is again included in the EURO'2009 program, providing a venue for researchers who are addressing the above problems to present their work in a high quality environment. ------------------------------ TOPICS OF INTEREST Research, position and experience papers are welcomed. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to: * Foundations of data mining * Data mining and machine learning algorithms and methods in OR areas * Data and knowledge representation for data mining * Quality assessment and interestingness metrics of data mining results * Decision-centred visual analytics * Visualisation and data mining support to optimization and multi-criteria decision analysis * Integration of data warehousing, OLAP and data mining for decision making * Data mining applications in decision support ------------------------------ SUBMISSION OF PAPERS Paper abstracts should be submitted electronically to the EURO'2009 management system (http://www.euro-2009.de/abstract_submission.htm) according to the guidelines posted there. At least one author of each accepted abstract is expected to participate in the conference and present his/her work. Informal proceedings including accepted abstracts will be distributed on site. Accepted works will be considered for publication in a special issue of the International Journal of Business Intelligence and Data Mining (IJBIDM), scheduled for the first quarter of 2010. Authors of accepted EURO abstracts will be invited to submit full articles (a typical size is between 7000 and 9000 words) and a number of 6-8 papers will be selected for the special issue after a second review round. ------------------------------ STREAM ORGANIZER Yannis Theodoridis, Univ.
