Special track call for papers
Image processing for ophthalmology:
challenges in retinal analysis and related fields

During the last decade, retinal image analysis has
been making steady progress towards applications in
clinical practice. Various research and commercial
software tools have emerged for screening, lesion
detection and quantification, and biomarker discovery.
A mounting volume of data and annotations is becoming
accessible to research groups, and several public
repository of test data have appeared on the Internet.
With steadily increasing computer-aided support, the
eye is even more than before a window on the whole
human body. Retinal image analysis is maturing as a
field, building on foundational years of work on
automated detection and representation of retinal
landmarks and lesions alike. High-quality papers are
invited for this special track in, but not limited to,
the following areas:

* Detection and measurement of retinal vessels
* Segmentation of retinal regions of interest
* Retinal lesion detection and quantification
* 2D and 3D modelling and reconstruction
* Image registration
* Feature extraction and selection
* Multispectral analysis
* Synthetic and simulated retinal images
* Modelling and analysis of OCT data
* Modelling and analysis of retinal angiographic
sequences
* Clinical perspectives and experiences

Prospective authors are expected to submit original,
unpublished contributions which must not be under
review elsewhere. For paper preparation and submission
instructions please refer to the submission guidelines
on the general CBMS site. Submission of a paper
implies acceptance that at least one of the authors
will register and present the paper at the special
track. All papers will be peer-reviewed by at least
two independent referees.

Authors of best papers will be invited to submit
extended versions for a Special Issue on Elsevier
Journal of Computers and Biology in Medicine or IEEE
Transactions on Information Technology in Biomedicine.

Within the general CBMS event, the Italian Chapter of
the IAPR (International Association for Pattern
Recognition) offers a prize to a young researcher in
memory of Prof. Ezio Catanzariti. The prize will
consist of 500.00€ and a plaque.
