Call For Papers

Scope and Interests

Big data has been manifesting the industry and academic community for the past few years. Data intensive throughput oriented applications such as videos, games, music, databases are flooding the Internet with tremendous amount of data flowing through as digital content. Retrieving, processing, distilling, delivering the content in real time is of significant importance to end users. One distinguishing feature of these applications is in the amount of data-level parallelism available to process the data independently on scalable multi-core chips or Cloud/Grid computing environments. On the other hand, there are many complex applications such as biological networks, social networks, finance, medicine that are not only data and compute intensive but also communication and bandwidth intensive. The data structures used in these problems are irregular, usually, pointer-based, graphs or trees that makes solving these problems on high performance/distributed computers challenging. To handle the dynamic nature of big data successfully, architectures, networks, memory, algorithms and programming languages should be scalable and extendable to accommodate the varying needs of the applications. Moreover, with service oriented computing gaining popularity, fault tolerant, scalable private and public Cloud, scalable and adaptable service level agreements become important.

ScalCom-14 focuses on the “Foundations” -- advances in parallel multi-core architectures, distributed Grid and Cloud computing environments with respect to networking, memory, fault tolerance, service oriented computing; “Applications” -- data/compute/communication/bandwidth intensive problems from various disciplines; “Theory” -- innovative scalable parallel/distributed algorithms involving heuristic, meta heuristics or graph algorithm partitioning techniques; “Performance” -- metrics, performance measurement, benchmark design, run-time performance management.

The goal of ScalCom-14 is to provide an international forum for researchers working in myriad areas of scalable computing and communications to share their ideas and experiences. ScalCom-14 is soliciting original, previously unpublished work addressing research challenges and presenting advances in the design and implementation of scalable computing and communication systems. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

Publications

Accepted and presented papers will be included into the IEEE Conference Proceedings published by IEEE CPS (submitted to the IEEE-DL and EI index). Authors of accepted papers, or at least one of them, are requested to register and present their work at the conference, otherwise their papers will be removed from the digital libraries of IEEE CS and EI after the conference.

Important Dates

Paper Submission Deadline: July 30, 2014
Author Notification: September 21, 2014
Final Manuscript Due: October 20, 2014
Conference Date: December 9-12, 2014
Paper Submission Guidelines

All papers must be submitted electronically and in PDF format. The material presented should be original and not published or under submission elsewhere. Authors should submit full papers of up to 8 pages, following strictly the IEEE Computer Society Proceedings Manuscript style, using two-column, single-space format, with 10-point font size. Figures and references must be included in the 8 pages. Oversized papers will be automatically rejected by the PC chairs. At least one of the authors of each accepted paper must register early to attend the conference, in order for the paper to appear in the conference proceedings.
