Call For Papers

ICTRS 2012
First International Conference on Telecommunications and Remote Sensing
29-31 August, 2012, Sofia, Bulgaria

General Information

The First International Conference on Telecommunications and Remote Sensing (ICTRS 2012) provides a specialized forum to researchers and practitioners who are interested in telecommunications, in general, and in particular - in remote sensing and its relation to complex context aware telecommunication systems. The scientific areas of interest to the conference, corresponding to its tracks, are in the following directions: (i) Telecommunications and Signal Processing; (ii) Remote Sensing; (iii) Context Awareness; (iv) Electromagnetic Environments and Interference; (v) Solar Power Satellite Systems.

Realizing sophisticated remote sensing and adequately processing and modeling the derived information allows for developing powerful context aware telecommunication systems. What is considered crucially important here is the adequate contribution in all of the above-mentioned scientific areas, such that a strong interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary value is achieved. ICTRS 2012 is addressing this challenge, by considering a large number of research topics: from more abstract ones, such as telecommunications algorithms to more technical ones, such as telecommunication systems development, from more conceptual ones, such as context representation and modeling, to more application-driven ones, such as solar power satellite systems.

Goals and Topics

The goal of ICTRS 2012 is to focus on the broad range of aspects already mentioned. The conference aims at contributing to the dissemination of research results, and supporting in this way the developments in the telecommunications area.

Topics of interest for the conference include, but are not limited to:

TRACK 1: TELECOMMUNICATIONS AND SIGNAL PROCESSING

The Telecommunications and Signal Processing ICTRS Track concerns radiocommunication systems and intelligent signal processing algorithms. A fundamental scientific background here is Mathematical Synthesis and Analysis, particularly directed towards the telecommunications domain. Further, this concerns signal processing and its application in areas, such as radar technology and green communication. With regard to all these issues, the design of advanced optimum data processing algorithms is of crucial importance. The topics of interest for the track include, but are not limited to:

- Information Theory, Coding, Modulation and Detection
- Signal Processing (in the area of Mathematical Synthesis and Analysis Optimal Processing Algorithms)
- Signal Processing and Neural Networks
- Signal Processing and Optical Communications
- Spectrum and Medium Utilization, including Cognitive and Cooperative Techniques
- Spread Spectrum Technology
- Circuits and Systems
- Wireless Networking
- Radar, Radiolocalization and Navigation Systems
- Green Communications

TRACK 2: REMOTE SENSING

The Remote Sensing ICTRS Track concerns the remote sensing technology and its application in different domains. Satellite and airborne remote sensing systems are powerful tools for observation of the Earth. High resolution satellite monitoring and mapping system including new remote sensing technologies are intensively used in geology, meteorology, environment, agriculture, etc. In this sense microwave systems, digital cameras and laser sensor, GPS and web GiS/Mobile Mapping systems are of particular interest. The track is planned to be a venue of ideas exchange and results discussion in the field of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) and Bistatic SAR techniques, Interferometric SAR (InSAR) and Differential InSAR applications, Inverse Synthetic Aperture (ISAR) signal modeling and image reconstruction methods, GPS and Web GIS/ Mobile new technical decisions and applications. The topics of interest for the track include, but are not limited to:

- Satellite and Airborne High Resolution Remote Sensing Systems for Earth Monitoring and Mapping
- New Remote Sensing Technology and Application in Geology, Meteorology, Environment, and Agriculture
- SAR and Bistatic SAR Systems: Modeling, Data Processing, and Feature Extraction
- InSAR/D-InSAR systems: Algorithm and Modeling, DEM/3D Generation, Change Detection
- ISAR systems: Modeling and Image Reconstruction Algorithms
- Digital cameras and Laser Sensors/LIDAR
- Global Satellite Navigational Systems and Applications
- GPS Applications
- Web GIS / Mobile Mapping

TRACK 3: CONTEXT AWARENESS

The Context Awareness ICTRS Track concerns the importance of adequately considering context information in complex telecommunication systems. Often such systems, in order to be of real use, are expected to adapt their behavior depending on their operational context or on the context of their human users. It is thus necessary to sense and infer the relevant context information and derive and apply the behavior adaptation that best fits the inferred context, all in real-time. This puts serious challenges on the design process, dealing with questions such as: how is context modeled and how is it represented in the system; how is relevant context information derived from raw data provided by sensors; how is context information efficiently managed in a scalable way; what are the quality requirements with respect to context information; what are the quality of service requirements on context-aware services; how is system behavior adapted based on context information; what are proper adaptations given knowledge on context situations; what privacy risks have users of context-aware systems and how can we make the privacy risks acceptable? Hence, the topics of interest for the track include, but are not limited to:

- Context modeling and reasoning
- Non-functional requirements on context-aware services
- Model-driven design of context-aware systems
- Balancing adaptability and privacy
- Correlating user context and user needs
- Context-driven rule-based system adaptability
- Quality of context
- Context aggregation and inference
- Context management infrastructures
- Applications and prototypes
- Validation and case studies

TRACK 4: SOLAR POWER SATELLITE SYSTEMS

The Solar Power Satellite Systems (SPS) Track concerns the theory and experimental development for the SPS, a wireless power transmission (WPT), and the other related technologies for the SPS. The SPS is one of most hopeful power system in near future, in which huge electric power will be generated in space and the generated electric power will be transmitted to the ground via microwaves or laser. One of the key technologies for the SPS is the WPT. The WPT for SPS requires various technologies, especially waves and propagation theory and developments, for example, antennas and phased array, DOA, semiconductor technologies, microwave tubes, active and passive circuits, wave propagation which includes plasma physics. Of cause, we also need the system researches and the other related technologies for the SPS, rockets, satellite structure, solar cells, power management in space. All technologies will support the SPS. The topics of interest for the track include, but are not limited to:

- Solar Power Satellite Systems and Power Applications in Space
- Microwave Power Transmission Systems and Applications, and the other Wireless Power Transmission
- Antenna Theory and Development which Includes Phased Array for Beam Forming
- Beam Forming Theory and Algorism
- Retrodirective Target Detecting and Direction Of Arrival (DOA) Techniques
- High Power or High Efficiency Microwave Generator or Amplifier Circuits and Systems
- Semiconductor Developments for Microwave Power Transmission
- Rectenna and the Other Rectifying Systems for Wireless Power Transmission
- Wave Propagation from Space to Ground which Includes Ionospheric Plasma Theory and Observation
- EMC, EMI and Safety Issue of Microwaves and Radio Waves
- New Systems and Applications of Wireless Power Transmission and Power in Space
