Objective and Motivation:
=========================
The conference session entitled “Assistive Information Technology for People with Disabilities” will discuss important issues about the role of assistive technology to help the disabled people including the elderly people on independence and self-reliance in daily life through the application of smart technology and based on wireless sensor networks as well as machine learning and image processing techniques in various economic, social and environmental themes of sustainable development. Consequently, that will result in emphasizing the principle of "integration and involvement" of people with disabilities in the community and avoid dismissing or isolating them as an unproductive class or denying their right in participation and entertainment through the development of various services and the creation of service channels commensurate with the needs and interests of that category. So, in addition to displaying a number of technological proposals in many areas, which lead to the improvement of health, educational and psychological status and membership for the disabled people by raising the morale and mental awareness of a person to get rid of the sense of loneliness and depression and to overcome the feeling that a person no longer has a role in society or life.

The conference session titled “Assistive Information Technology for People with Disabilities” welcomes theoretical and/or empirical papers from all areas of research related to the multidisciplinary domain of assistive technological applications for people with disabilities.

Scope and Interests:
====================
The special session aims to provide a scientific forum that brings together individuals from various research and applied backgrounds; namely academia, researchers and care providers as well as companies and industrial enterprises producing and developing technological techniques helping to serve the disabled people, in the relevant multidisciplinary domain of assistive technological applications for people with disabilities to discuss recent developments in the field of assistive technologies to provide a better quality of life for disabled people. The interaction of individuals with the information technologies and systems for satisfying their information needs to develop assistive technologies may include, but not limited to, the following:
 Assistive IT for people with visual impairments
 Assistive IT for people with hearing impairments
 Assistive IT for people with memory disorders
 Assistive IT for people with cognitive disorders
 Assistive IT for people with movement impairments
 Machine learning and computational intelligence for assistive IT
 Assistive IT in healthcare
 Assistive IT in entertainment
 Assistive IT in education
 Wireless Sensor Networks
 Intelligent monitoring systems
 Smart environments
 Information services for quality and safety Privacy and security issues

All accepted papers will be published in the Journal of Procedia Computer Science by ELSEVIER (ISSN:1877-0509) which is indexed by SCOUPS: the largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature and which will be available online on Sciencedirect.com.
