Emerging BAN Technologies - Goldcoast, Australia.

In conjunction with ISCIT
http://iscit2012.org/index.php/workshops

Scope:
The rapid acceleration in miniaturisation of computing and transceiver devices is increasing the potential evolution and development of various types of sensor networked devices in new domains. Body Area Networks (BANs) are a specialised type of sensor networked device specifically designed to provide sensing and communication within and around the human body. BAN communicationis typically categorised into two areas: In-body and On-body. In-body (implantable) BANs, refer to sensor networked devices implanted inside the body, capable of performing a variety of tasks such as targeted drug delivery and internal monitoring. On-body (wearable) BANs, refer to sensor networked devices, which are placed on the skin or in wearable garments, capable of a diverse range of applications in environmental and medical monitoring including the development of smart clothing. BANs are an emerging area of interest, which is gaining moment across a wide area of research and application. The aim of this workshop is to present the latest research and advancements towards developing practical BAN technologies for future application.Note: All papers will undergo the same peer-review process as other papers submitted to the IEEE ISCIT conference, and if accepted and presented at the conference, will be published in IEEE Xplore.

Topics of Interest

The workshop seeks contribution from authors with original (previously unpublished and currently not under-review) research and results in the area of BANs. Topics include the development of new: algorithms, theoretical models and analysis, protocols and test-beds. The specific topics include (but not limited to):

• Antenna Design and modelling for On-body and In-body BANs.
• Physical layer models including advanced channel and propagation modelling.
• Radio Technologies and models for BANs.
• MAC layer protocols.
• Interference mitigation.
• Intra and Inter BAN communications.
• Protocols Heterogeneous BAN Scenarios.
• Routing and Addressing.
• Reliability and Fault-Tolerance.
• Power management.
• Energy efficiency and harvesting.
• Applications in BANs.
• Test-bed and early experimental results.
• Simulation modelling and tools for BANs.
• Security issues in BANs.
