DEADLINE EXTENDED TO JANUARY 12 2015

** Aim and Scope **

The First IFIP/IEEE International Workshop on Cognitive Network and Service Management will be held in conjunction with IFIP/IEEE IM 2015 in Ottawa, Canada, from May 11-15, 2015. The workshop is endorsed by the IEEE Communications Society's Technical Committee on Network Operations and Management (CNOM). The scope of the CogMan workshop is to bring together experts in network and service management, on the one hand, with scientist in cognitive control and artificial intelligence, on the other hand. CogMan is a follow up of the DamNet Workshop on Data Mining in Networks, which has been run for four years at IEEE ICDM (the IEEE flagship conference on Data Mining). However, while DamNet aimed at bringing the broader network science (beyond computer networks) into the data mining community, CogMan aims at bringing experts in computational intelligence into the particular area of Integrated Networks and Services.

Modern communication networks have reached a level of scale, dynamics and complexity that demands for a dynamic management that is able to (i) adapt to unforeseen scenarios and (ii) proactively undertake management decisions when certain trends can be witnessed. Cognitive approaches such as artificial intelligence and machine learning are an ideal candidate for reaching this dynamic management. However, at the same time they feature important challenges as there is a need for large-scale and scalable cognitive technologies, the integration within multi-agent settings and guaranteeing convergence to (sub-)optimal goals. The workshop focus will encompass cognitive algorithms (e.g., artificial intelligence, machine learning) and their application to network and service management problems.

CogMan 2015 aims at providing an international forum for researchers addressing these challenges. It intends to facilitate the exchange of ideas between different research communities which share a common interest optimizing networks and services through cognition.

** Submission Instructions **

Paper submissions must present original research or experiences. Late-breaking advances and work-in-progress reports from ongoing research are also encouraged. Only original papers that have not been published or submitted for publication elsewhere can be submitted. Each submission must be written in English, accompanied by a 75 to 200 word abstract and a list of up to 5 keywords. There is a length limitation of 6 pages (including title, abstract, figures, tables, and references) for workshop papers. Submissions must be in IEEE 2-column style. Papers exceeding these limits, multiple submissions, and self-plagiarized papers will be rejected without further review.

Authors should submit their papers in PDF, postscript, or Word formats via JEMS (https://submissoes.sbc.org.br/home.cgi?c=2177)

PLEASE NOTE: To be published in the IFIP/IEEE IM 2015 Proceedings and to be eligible for publication in IEEE XploreR, an author of an accepted paper is required to register for the workshop at the full (member or non-member) rate and the paper must be presented by an author of that paper at the conference [or workshop] unless the TPC Chair grants permission for a substitute presenter arranged in advance of the event and who is qualified both to present and answer questions. Non-refundable registration fees must be paid prior to uploading the final IEEE formatted, publication-ready version of the paper. For authors with multiple accepted papers, one full registration is valid for up to 3 papers. Accepted and presented papers will
be published in the IFIP/IEEE IM 2015 Proceedings and submitted to IEEE Xplore.
