Call For Papers

Studio28 Magazine opens a call, now!
Deadline for the submission of pitches and summaries: 20th August

Monthly releases
First edition: September/October edition
Website of the organization: http://www.perypezyeurbane.org

This is an open invitation for written articles on the subject of cultural topics and we invite students, researchers, artists, journalists and whoever might be interested in participating in our project.

The articles will be published in a not for profit UE- oriented Italy based cultural e-zine that will be released on a monthly basis. The e-zine is being supported by the Studio28 Tv, S28 factory arts group, the Perypezye Urbane collective, who support and distribute the e-zine in Italy. The e-zine's purpose is primarily to advocate an exchange between nations and cultures and to invite discourses, dialogues and discussions into the Italian community whilst providing a service for the arts community globally.

If you know someone else who might be interested, please forward this call on!

If you would like to ask further information about the project or if you want to participate in this call send the required materials to virginia@perypezyeurbane.org (look at the paragraph “how to apply”)

What we call for
The final outcome of your contribution should be a feature with a length of maximum 500 words on one of the three topics. The piece of writing should be enriched with link and suitable for being read on the internet.
The selected article will get a payoff of 150 euro.
We will prefer to receive a pitch/ short summary of your idea and be able to make a first choice starting from there.
Text should be sent in a word document (.doc) or text file (.txt).

Which are the topics

We are looking for three short-essays/articles about three topics

1) Common goods / Commons
What is the meaning of “commons” in your Country or in the place where you live? Is there any interesting remark that you can make about the translation of the English acceptation in your language? Is the State intervention or the creation of public tenders an adequate tool in order to guarantee a just participation of citizens in the management and experience of common goods? Should the private sector be included in the reasoning about diffusion and democratization process of culture? Do you know about any experience where citizens took over a space and made it a “commons”?

2) Market

Should works of art become a profitable business both for artists and for people who are involved in the process of creating and selling it? Should artists think about money when they create something? Which is the relationship between economy and culture? The UE is trying to promote different initiatives aiming to understand the role of culture as teaser for the entire economy. Discuss this attitude and try to define how governments and institutions and private sector are responding to the request of the European institutions.

3) Cultural Heritage
How do you define “cultural heritage”? To what extent “cultural heritage” contributes in the construction of individual, national and transnational identities? Is the role of “cultural heritage” a neutral role or is it a pervasive tool of propaganda? How do new technologies and new media change the use and the perception of historical sites and cultural heritage? Is their role a positive role in the emancipation from top-down value systems?

How to apply
You can pitch your story sending an email to Virginia Fiume, editor in chief of Studio28 Magazine virginia@perypezyeurbane.org. The deadline for sending your proposal is 20th of august– 1 p.m. (Italian Time - + 1 GMT)
• Select the “issue” that you would like to analyze and indicate it in the object of the email
• Few lines (maximum 10 lines/150 words) expressing the key idea behind your research/story telling. You should give us an impression of the angle from which you want to observe the topic, the Institutions/People/Organizations that you want to mention, few links that you think you will use to create an interactive text, suitable to a digital magazine.
• A very short bio, including websites of organization that you are involved in
For every topic we will choose just one story and we will send an email to all the people that will contact us, whether their story will be selected or not. Consider that even if your article will not be selected for the specific section of the magazine, we could ask you to write a contribution for other columns or for further editions.
Each author that will get his/her story selected will obtain a payoff of 150 euro , once the article will be published on the magazine.
