The past few years have witnessed dramatic developments in image processing. While wavelet expansions have finally established themselves as the prototype of a modern efficient approach to signal processing applications, adaptive local and non-local approximations have emerged as novel surprisingly powerful tools for image analysis, restoration, compression, and enhancement. The current state-of-the-art in image processing exhibits a plethora of these diverse techniques, which are apparently very different but deeply and intimately related through concepts such as sparsity, redundancy, compressibility, and self-similarity.
The purpose of the LNLA workshop is to gather some of the leading specialists working or interested in these areas and create a friendly and relaxed atmosphere to talk about the latest and the most important issues in these fields. One of the goals is to reach a unified view of the different approaches and generate ideas about novel image models which can explain and drive future development. Workshop topics include, but are not limited to: * statistical image analysis * natural image modelling * sparse and redundant (overcomplete) representations * directional, oriented, and anisotropic filters and transforms * adaptive transforms * higher-dimensional transforms * learned transforms * nonparametric approximations * fractal image coding * modelling of human vision * application and efficient implementation of adaptive approximations in imaging * image and video denoising, deblurring, and compression * inverse problems in imaging This is the second edition of this workshop, held for the first time in Lausanne, Switzerland, August 23-24, 2008. The LNLA workshop continue the tradition of the TICSP International Workshop on Spectral Methods and Multirate Signal Processing (SMMSP), held seven times in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007, and of the TICSP International Workshop on Transforms and Filter Banks, held twice in 1998 and 1999. All accepted papers will be published online in the IEEExplore (pending) or EURASIP archives. Important dates: Full paper (6-8 pages) April 12, 2009 Notification of acceptance June 1, 2009 Camera-ready paper (6-8 pages) July 5, 2009 Workshop dates August 19-21, 2009 Venue Gustavelund Conference Hotel Tuusula, Finland 15min from Helsinki-Vantaa International Airport 30min from downtown Helsinki http://www.gustavelund.fi |
