Workshop summary

The Eclipse platform has played a very significant role in the evolution of software engineering research over the last few years as it has provided mature infrastructure for the development of orthogonal but interoperable prototypes in areas including model driven engineering, code analysis, data visualisation, software measurement and testing and language development. The academic community has in turn embraced Eclipse and has contributed several tools back as open source projects (such as IMP, GEF3D, Mylyn, ATL, Epsilon etc) - some of which have been brought under the umbrella of the Eclipse Foundation.

The aim of this workshop is to provide a venue where developers of research-oriented software engineering tools built on top of Eclipse can demonstrate the most recent developments in their tools, provide insights on issues encountered when using these tools in practice, obtain feedback, exchange expertise, and engage in fruitful discussions with like-minded researchers. The workshop will also help bring together tool developers and existing or candidate users. In its first incarnation (Academics Modelling with Eclipse - co-located with ECMFA 2012), the workshop was focused on Model Driven Engineering tools for Eclipse and attracted 10 submissions (7 of which were accepted for publication). This year, we have decided to broaden the scope of the workshop to accommodate topics researched in the ECOOP and ECSA communities.

To maintain a strong Eclipse focus, all papers will need to provide an Eclipse update site (and possibly more detailed instructions) through which the presented tool can be installed on a clean Eclipse distribution.

Best paper prize
------------------------------
The paper with the greatest combined score during the peer review stage will be awarded the best paper prize, a Google Nexus 7 Android tablet (32GB + mobile data model: https://play.google.com/store/devices/details?id=nexus_7_32gb_hspa). In the event of a tie, the workshop organisers will have the casting vote. The conference organisers thank the develop group (http://www.develop-group.de) for sponsoring the best paper prize.

Selection procedure
------------------------------
All submissions will be reviewed by at least three members of the program committee. Papers must be submitted in PDF format and strictly adhere to the ACM SIG proceedings format. We advocate two types of papers: tool demonstration papers which should not exceed 4 pages in size, and regular papers which should not exceed 10 pages including all text, references, appendices and figures. Paper submissions will be made electronically via the workshop submission web page, using the EasyChair service. All submissions must be accompanied by a link to a screencast demonstrating the tool presented. All submissions must be original work, and must not have been previously published, nor be under consideration for publication, elsewhere. At least one author of each accepted paper must register for the conference and participate in the workshop.

Publication plans
------------------------------
We aim to publish accepted papers in the ACM Digital Library through the ACM International Conference Proceedings Series.
For the first edition of the workshop we organized an Elsevier Science of Computer Programming special issue (\url{http://www.win.tue.nl/~mvdbrand/SCP-EST/}). We aim to have a special issue of a journal also for the second edition of the workshop.
