OTAKU STUDIES 2013 Midwest Popular Culture Association Conference Friday-Sunday, October 11-13, 2013 St. Louis, MO St. Louis Union Station Hotel, A Doubletree by Hilton Deadline Extended: 15 May 2013 Submissions.mpcaaca.org Otaku are a group of fans devoted to Japanese animation, graphic arts, couture, and other cultural products and activities. These groups regularly populate hundreds of conventions across the US and Canada each year that often exceed 25,000 in attendance. This group has been part of the American cultural landscape since the release of Astro Boy in 1963 and they’re still going strong today. Topics can include, but are not limited to otaku groups, events, practices, and productions. Case studies are also welcome. Please upload 250 word abstract proposals on any aspect of Otaku Studies to the Otaku Studies area at http://submissions.mpcaaca.org/. Proposals for full panels are also welcome. Any questions?
